Hello Dakkanites,

So it's been a while since I've been on here, but I've got a tournament coming up in less than week (this Saturday to be exact) and was hoping to get some suggestions regarding my list (well, lists). I'm playing in an unrestricted tournament, and unfortunately, I don't have the model count to run anything that's ridiculous (like 14 Annihilation Barges). I've made these lists with the intention of seeing how well a CAD list can perform in unrestricted conditions. I'm hopeful it'll work out well, and that's why I wanted to get some input on how I can make these lists a little better.

For reference, I am expecting at least 1 Imp Knight, Heldrakes, and some combination of Space Marines, Wolves, Eldar, Dark Eldar (non-beast pack), and other Cron's.

HQ:
Overlord + Warscythe + MSS + Semp Weave + Phase Shifter + CCB = 255

Royal Court:
Veiltek = 60 (this will be with the stormteks for a haywire bomb)
2x Stormteks = 50

Troops:
9x Warriors + Ghost Ark = 232
9x Warriors + Ghost Ark = 232
5x Immortals + Night Scythe = 185

Fast Attack:
6x Wraiths = 210

Heavy:
3x Annihilation Barges

Total: 1494

List 2:

HQ:
Overlord (same as above) = 255

Royal Court:
Veiltek = 60
2x Stormteks = 50
2x Destroteks + Solar Pulse = 90

Troops:
8x Warriors + Ghost Ark = 219 (Destro here)
8x Warriors + Ghost Ark = 219 (Destro here)
5x Warriors + Night Scythe = 165
5x Warriors + Night Scythe = 165

Heavy:
3x Annihilation Barges = 270

Total: 1493

Just seems like standard Necron list to be honest. Nothing to flashy, very safe.

That is true. I don't know what is coming so I'm trying to cover my bases. My main concern is if there is anything missing or something I could possibly improve on.

Does the Royal Court have a transport? Just trying to get familiar with necron tactics, thanks.

No, at least not in the first list. The veiltek and stormteks stay together and pick off a heavy vehicle or two if possible with their haywire staffs

yeah I was looking at the haywire staffs and thought they would be quite useful for a lot of scenarios, just wondering about mobility. Guess just putting them in a ghost ark would suffice.

Thats what the veiltech is for.

oh wow, I did not know that. I'm just becoming familiar with Necrons to help my brother build his army. Thanks your list gave us a pretty nice outline of some ideas and units to purchase

Haha well, you're welcome. In a friendly or even semi-competitive game, there's few things you can really go wrong with in the codex as everything work fairly well when supported. It's only when things get a little more serious that you need to trim some of the frills and focus on the best in slot units. Even then, they are interchangeable depending on the type of list you run.

List one is prone to heavy artillery so don't put that one up with IG. List 2, however, is very prone to infantry. Drop a nightscythe and get another veiltek with wraiths, which can be improved even more with coils. List 2 isn't so bad, drop the ghost arks and you'll be able to get more infantry. I suppose the warriors in the scythes are for last min objective holding? For a small point list I usually take some scarabs with a veiltek for some really dirty matches

The barge give a +1 to your save so you don't need the weave.

Hmm I guess I'm a little confused on how the first list is vulnerable to artillery. Most artillery in the game is going to either bounce off the side, or only have roughly a 50/50 chance at doing anything, not including jink. Unless there's something I'm missing. Well Manticores would be one, but I still.

I'm also a little confused on how the second list is vulnerable to infantry. Right now, it's actually more resistant to infantry as they can't scratch the Ghost Arks unless their loaded with Melta, lots of Plasma, or some variation of high strength weapons which infantry armies typically lack outside of one or two sources. Shifting toward a foot list I feel increases my vulnerability as well as damages my mobility. Perhaps I'm wrong here though. I'd love to hear differing opinions.

Unfortunately, I have to keep the weave. Chariots don't give a +1 to your save this edition, so if I want a 2+ save, I need it.

Footlists work, but they require Ghost Arks and Court Lords with ResOrbs to keep the model count high.

Looking at your Overlord...try removing the Weave or Phase Shifter and see how they work. Remember you get to say whether a shot hits the Chariot or Rider (so all S6 and below shots go to the Chariot, Melta to the Rider, whatever is going to work best). If you find you don't need either, you have about 67 points to play with.

For list one, you could invest in some Whip Coils on the Wraiths, i would go for 3 Whip Coils and 1 Pistol (spare points) and put the last 27 points into another StormTek.

For list two, this is 5 more Warriors, or you could upgrade the Warriors in Night Scythes to Immortals and make them a bit more durable, spending the remain points on two more Warriors in the Ghost Arks, filling their capacity.

I personally like list two more, I find Wraiths really shine when in multiple units or with a Destroyer Lord attached for PE and to tank hits.

I'm hesitant to remove any defensive gear from the Overlord. I've found in my experience I usually need it to keep him alive. Especially since I'm expecting some variants of hard hitting close combat units at this tournament. Possibly.

I do like the idea of list two more, and have heavily considered rolling into a second catacomb command barge, trimming down the Warriors, dropping the destros, and swapping the Annihilation Barge over to a CCB. The mobility factor, especially at the type of tournament I'm playing at, is huge. We typically use the battle point system (somewhat similar to Maelstrom type games).

I guess I'm a little torn honestly.
