I'm going to a tournament in the next few weeks and I think I'm going to bring tau. I only have a few models right now but this list is what I plan to have. I didn't want to make anything too cheesy so no riptides. One other thing, it says that battlesuits can fire 2 weapons a turn, and can take 3 weapon hardpoints. TL a weapon counts as 2 hardpoints. Can you take a TL weapon and another weapon? I did that on most of my battlesuits.

HQ: 317
Cadre Fireblade
Commander
- 1 TL plasma rifle, 1 plasma rifle, 1 flamer, system jammer
2 Bodyguard crisis suits
- 2 TL plasma rifle, 2 plasma rifle

Troops: 367
12 Fire Warriors
12 Fire Warriors
12 Fire Warriors
8 Fire Warriors
- Emp grenades and carbines, devilfish with sensor spines

Fast Attack: 132
6 Pathfinders
6 Pathfinders

Elites: 417
3 Crisis suits
- 6 fusion blasters, 3 target locks
3 Crisis Suit
- 3 TL flames, 3 flamers
4 Stealth Suits
- Markerlight, target lock, homing beacon

Heavy Support: 270
Hammerhead
- Submunition rounds, SMS, sensor spines
Hammerhead
- Submunition rounds, SMS, sensor spines

The 2 crisis teams will deepstrike, hopefully I can get at least one to use the stealth team's homing beacon. I think this is a pretty solid list. lots of anti tank, anti infantry and markerlights to make it effective

He's been ferried through hell on a ship that's ten thousand years old to some godforsaken, war-torn rock; He is one of ten million men snatched from his home to fight a war he barely understands; He wages war against devouring hiveminds, ravenous demons and hordes of hyper-advanced aliens with strange technologies and sorceries he never dreamed existed; no one will remember his sacrifice, there will be no records of his deeds, no glorious parades in his honor, and no remembrance of his name. All he will earn is a shallow, unmarked grave on a forgotten world untold lightyears from home.

Yet for all this thankless sacrifice a Guardsman is a man, just like you. He has no millennia-old genetic engineering, no prophetic leader, no miracles of faith. He has his lasgun, his orders, and those beside him. He is the Imperial Guard.

And he will hold the line.

I really like it too. 9 suits, lots of FW's, you got a Devilfish for mobility, 2 squads of Pathfinders (huge help to your hammerheads turn 1 and your deep striking Suits turn 2+). You don't have much anti air, but to be honest if you dominate everything else (troops, vehicles, whatever) you can leave air alone and just take a few wounds every turn.

You can TL a weapon and take another as that's 3 points but you cannot take any other systems (which you didn't).

I would however remove your 8 man squad out of the devilfish and replace it with one of your 12 man squad and not worry about the carbine and EMP upgrades. Reason is that you can still rapid fire your pulse rifles at 15" range but still have the 30" shot if you need it. Unloading 12 FW's (24 rapid fire shots) you should take down 25% of the unit you are firing at and force a leadership test anyway. Also, if they are charged the following turn you're allowed to rapid fire snap shots and do just as much damage as an EMP grenade.

With that 88 points you removed from your fish I would take a squad of 12 kroot with sniper rounds. This squad will be able to infiltrate and if you go up against a Tyranid player, or Chaos, or even another Tau, you can target monstrous creatures and snipe them to death. Or if you go up against a marine player, target heavy weapon teams and if you roll 6's take out their heavy weapons troopers right off the bat.

I would drop the ML from the Cadre Fireblade and go for gun drones if you're gonna take any, he also really needs to be in a unit and the ML must fire at the same target as the unit.

That's a good point about the the rifles, I'll probably end up switching them. I would like to keep the devilfish though. The EMP squad inside make a fun anti tank unit and if I don't need to kill tanks with them they can boost to the objectives inside the fish.

The Cadre has the split fire USR. Since the ML drones are his, wouldn't the drones, either gun or marker, have to shoot at the same unit as him? He's going to be in a fire warrior unit anyway. If sit doesn't work that way, ill probably drop the drones

Doesn't work that way they become part of the unit he joins, would be brilliant if it worked that way though. If he joins a Firewarrior unit they all have to target the same thing with 1 nominated model being able to split fire, which is nearly always the Cadre.

yep should be awesome lol, they will probably do more damage than my usual infantry tactics of 150 lasgun shots

The Fireblade is well worth the 65pts as a straight infantry boosting unit IMO. I know the ethereal does it at half range but being up to fire two shots at full pulse range makes a Tau gun line so much more efficient.

Good list though, if I was playing that I would be planning plas/melta spam!

Yeah, I'd drop the ML drones on the fireblade. You could use those points to add Target Locks to two of your fusion suits to let them split their fire on the turn they drop. I've used that tactic before on mech heavy lists; however, it requires a very suicidal drop hoping that you don't scatter too much. Maybe the homing beacon from the stealth suits could help with that.

Made an updated list with the suggestions. Thinking about it, I think the stealth suits and flamer suit squad will make a great anti-infantry team. 16 S5 shots + 6 flamer templates. Hope I get to play some nids! lol

I would drop all the twin linked weapons on your suits to be honest, they really not that great points wise.

The flamer suit is pretty novel but missile pods and plasma rifles are so much better, with the points dropped from twin linking everything I would look at making these either one of them.

Every tank should have a disruption pod to be honest, I can't believe I missed this before! your Hammerheads shouldn't really need sensor spines. I can see why you've taken it on the Devilfish though. The Devilfish might get expensive but try fitting a disruption pod and counter defence system. Having the ability to overwatch the SMS might save the Firewarriors when they disembark would be brilliant.

I agree and disagree with some of PAs points. I would drop all the TL'd equipment to just one additional weapon. However, I disagree with how to use those points.

I'd swap the TL'd flamers out for BCs on the one squad of Suits. That should be an even point swap. Getting rid of the rest of the TL'd weapons should leave you with 15 points. So to help get a few more points I'd also pull 2 members out of each pathfinder squad. I believe, I don't have my codex on me, that will give you 59 points total to play with. Now take those points, add one more stealth suit to your stealth squad (upping the dakka), and add 2 gun drones to your BC/flamer squad (once again upping the dakka). This will leave you with 5 points left. I believe that will give you enough left over to give the overwatch upgrade to your DF.

As you can see I also disagree about the DPs on all the tanks. With the way jink now works, I don't believe it to be as necessary an upgrade.
