To know the BBC show Blake's 7 is to love its dark, anarchic ethos. The show only aired for four years, 1978 to 1981 (with the production values, the fashion, and, oh gods, the hair to prove it), and for those of us who had seen it, the announcement of a reboot back in 2012 was thrilling to hear. But it's now 2014, with almost no news about B7 Mark 2. Except for this:

The unnamed production company has released three pieces of concept art for the show that, according to the Nerdist, is "still in development." The Nerdist calls the three images "H.R. Giger-y." And we have to agree. We can see the late artist's influence in the yawning corridor of the Liberator (our protagonists' ship), the bony grip around the exterior, and the disharmonious skyline of Trafalgar Square, circa 2700 AD. We have them for you, below.

Blake's 7 was the perfect show for those of us who ever wondered, "What if the cast of Star Trek actually hated each other?" Here, not only do several major characters actively dislike each other, in one memorable episode, "Orbit," the antiheroic computer programmer Avon was actively trying to kill the antiheroic thief Vila.

We would love to see a reboot of this, particularly now that we no longer have Browncoats to hate on the government.

So although "still in development" isn't as encouraging as casting actors and finding a director, it's far better than "dropped like an ice cream on Mustafar."

EXTRA no. Very no. Oh FETH no. That design is a billion spacials away from what the Liberator is supposed to be: an elegant, beautiful ship which is obviously far more technologically advanced than any other ship in the galaxy. That hunk of junk looks like the Millenium Falcon and a Federation Pursuit Ship had a shameful drunken tryst baby. That ain't the Liberator.

Blakes 7 was one of the most boring shows I've ever seen. That someone is considering a reboot demonstrates that they're scraping the bottom of the barrel.

It's funny. This is exactly how I feel about Firefly.

Firefly was an excelent series, it needs to be extended rather than rebooted.

Blake's Seven was a better show than givejn crfedit for, it was produced on less than a shoestring budget. The SFX were budget at £100 per episode and they managed to keep to budget.
The thinking behind the show was fairly advanced for its time though, it has a lot of promise for a reboot.

About the only thing I know about Blake's 7 was a song by Star One on their "Space Metal" album called "Intergalactic Space Crusaders". Apparently it was the British version of Star Trek with the overtones of worrying about their lost empire.

Never seen it, so I will reserve judgment.

Where the federation is a totalitarian fascist regime not a cuddly fluffy one open to influence by aliens. The Imperium of 40k has more in common with it than it does the empire of Star Wars.

Where political prisoners are experimented on.

If the B7 federation existed in the ST mirror universe, it would make the UFP look like an anarchic state.

While i am excited by the prospect of a reboot, the Liberator should not end up looking like that, it is just wrong.
