I have a friend who plays Orks. He has just purchased a house, and as such he has little to no money to spend on things like 40k. Some friends and I are going to pool a little money together, say $150, and get him a few things to help his army out.

As of now, he has something like this:

75ish slugga boyz
10ish Nobz
3 Deff Koptahs
Warboss of some sort

If it matters, I play BA, friends play Tau and Necrons. I'd like to get him some stuff to help improve his armies performance, as right now he just gets destroyed by the Tau player and doesn't have much fun.

What are some ideas? I don't know much about Orks.

I've heard that warbikers are good. Lobbas too. I was thinking a Big Mek or whatever with a KFF or a painboy would help his orks get to their target.
Maybe a battlewagon and trucks for faster delivery, although if trukks have AV11 fronts that would do poorly vs fire warriors I'd imagine.

He already has a good troop base, so you probably want to get him some supporting units for elites, fast attack, and heavy support. Here's what I would suggest Elites- Meganobz, Fast Attack- Warbikerz, Heavy Support- Mek Gunz.

With the Painboy, he could easily convert it into a Painboy, which is what I did with the two Painboyz I have, and saved myself 40 bucks on that.

Big Mek with KFF is certainly a good investment from my personal experience. I'm bringing him almost every single game, because its SO good. Especially if he has the WAAAGH supplement, where he can get the 4++ KFF instead of the 5++.

Deffkoptas are still good, I'd recommend he get another 3 if possible, hunt ebay like a hawk for a good deal on them. Bikes are amazing, but are expensive models (money wise). I believe its 45 bucks for just 3 of them. :( I was fortunate and got steals on my ebay lots so I own about 20 Bikers.

He should have enough Boyz. He could look at some fliers too, those are still decent this edition, especially the bombers.

Trukks only have AV 10 on all facings, so they die very, very easily. Always have and always will. But they are insanely quick, traveling 24 inches total with the flat out move, so they can get too and from cover, or drop off their payloads quick.

Mega Nobz are good for low point games as well, using Trukks or Battle wagons to get around their slow movement speeds.

Blitzbomba, Shokk Attack Gun Big Mek, Lootas, and maybe 5 Kannon/Lobbas scratch built Mek Gunz.

If your friends are good at scratch building, buy a box of gretchin and scratch build the lobbas.

I would use around 10 lootas for the squad.

That takes up 1 HQ, 1 Fast Attack, and 2 Heavy Support roles, and adds some fire power while the boyz move forward.

even if he isnt that good at scratchbuilding, making your own mek gunz is really, really easy. Essentially put a large barrel on two wheels, add orky glyphs from various kits you already have, bam done. The real model is expensive as hell, even for someone like me that isnt in a financial pinch i refuse to buy more than 1 mek gun (only got the 1 for authenticity, the extra gun bitz for future naut/stompa kitbash, and size comparison)

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

MANz box and a Battlewagon. If you have any cash left over, maybe a Trukk too. Give him some variety to play with.

Are MANz worth the money? We would probably only be able to get him 3 since they cost so much. Right now I'm shooting for a wagon, maybe a trukk or two, a pain boy, big mek. I found a decent deal on some bikes (%66ish NIB) so I may go for that. Are bikers effective in small numbers? MANz?

mega armor nobz and a trukk for them. a battlewagon as well to transport some of those boys.

also its retardedly easy to build mek gunz. tankbustas to! all you have to do is add a rokkit to whatever guns they have! pistols shootas it doesnt matter.

MANZ will definitely make it more fun for him. Or even just a MA warboss. A kan or two is also fun at low points (although I haven't played with the Cowardly Grots rule yet). I haven't played bikes either but I imagine they'd be good. Really all he needs is for one MAN or one Kan to get into cc with the Tau and it's over. I've found it makes for a tense but fun game at 500.

So i have a guy offering me this for $150:
23 shootas,
a trukk,
a battle wagon,
5 nobs,
10 grots,
a custom war boss
2 dakka jet

All pretty well painted too. Think that's a good deal?

It's cheaper than GW retail price, so in that regard, it's a good deal. I don't think you would have much use for the dakka jets though.

I agree it's not a bad deal but not the fun stuff he needs for his army.

So dakka jets aren't very good?

Not if you're using them solely for anti-air. Traktor Kannons are much more effective/cheaper.

The air units he would be fighting would be my storm raven and the necron players two night scythes. If he doesn't have good AA I wouldn't run the raven anyway.

Also, the Battlewagon the guy has doesn't have any of the turret looking things I've seen in pictures of other wagons. Are those optional upgrades or is his missing parts?

Not much. It's also a 10/10/10 3 HP vehicle, so it will go down quickly.

Dakka Jets get 3 guns I believe, each pumping out 3 shots each. They can also shoot out 4 each when he calls a waaagh. They are twin linked too, meaning he gets to reroll his missed Hits. I also believe he can cause pinning as well when he shoots at infantry, which is good too. Dakka Jets are good. They just aren't stupid broken like they were before where each gun fired double the amount of shots on a Waaagh, especially since we can potentially call waggghs every turn.

Where's that guy live, I'd buy all that for 150.

Thats an insane deal for 150, even if they arent painted the dakkajets and bw alone are worth about that much brand new. Dakkajets are roughly 45USD each and BW are 66USD. Basically you'd be getting a handful of boyz, grotz, a random trukk, and a warboss for free lol

Both of these were on /r/miniswap. The guy with the lot was asking for more but gave me a deal when he found out it was for a friend. As for the painboy and the mek, they may be older models (perhaps why they are cheap?) but I'm not too concerned.

Personally i prefer the old painboy model, the new one is misleading. He looks like he has an 'urdy power klaw....when i saw the model i got my hopes up for a freakin poisoned klaw and it turned out he has no options other than a bike and bp...lame...even if i traded the urdy syringe for a klaw i would do it just for another klaw lol.

The SAGs are almost identical, just minor details and the face changed really.
