230 1x Flyrant / 2x TL Dev 230 1x Flyrant / 2x TL Dev 60 15x Termagaunts 40 10x Termagaunts 45 3x Rippers / Deepstriking 45 3x Rippers / Deepstriking 85 1x Malanthrope 85 1x Malanthrope 200 1x Dimachaeron 200 1x Dimachaeron 170 1x Exocrine 170 1x Exocrine 150 1x Carnifexe / 2x TL Dev 150 1x Carnifexe / 2x TL Dev 140 1x Mawloc 2000pts exactly This is 44 wounds at T6 3+ ArSv with 2x Malanthropes (8 wounds T5 ArSv3+) shrouding all this beautifull toughness and a screen of 25 gaunts to give the intervening model cover save. some very decent shooting with the 48 TL Dev shots and the 2 Exocrines and some great close combat with the 3x Carnifexes, the 2x Hive tyrants and the close combat powerhouse of 2x Dimachaerons, plus the other 3x MC can still give a wallop in CC. and some decent OS with the gaunts and the low riding ripper swarms sculking about. Two Flyrants is decent anti air, pretty poor from a Nids list but better then most other faction bring in their lists, carnifexes still help there too. Heavy vehicules will be annoying, but if I can weather their storm I can reach them in close combat and then I can kill them. Infantry lists would be a murder. not the best anti psyker with only 4 levels but its better than the nothing a lot of lists get. seems pretty good

Looks nice but its a lot of high point models hardly any cannon flodder. i think any thing with good air and lots of high str ap weapons is going to give it a problem. Any large model count army its going to be tough for this list to get though like lots of tau or eldar, marine blobs and imperial guard mass model armies that you will see at 2k pionts. Just my opinion i would hate to play against it because it will be a slaughter fest on all sides most likely depending on the dice gods.

Slaughterfests are the most fun games Sure, if the opponent is going 100% into big guns then he could be pretty confident against this list, but what will that list do against a horde? im considering an all comers list here, I think that with the large blast templates (Exocrines and Mawlocs) and Devourer dakka I have I can handle horde lists, especially since they normally wont be able to harm me that much with their punny guns... hehe. But even a strong shooter list will have a hard time breaking through the Malanthrope and guargoyle wall if I position myself well across the battlefield. Then he still has 42 big wounds to go through and they are (hopefully) almost all in charge range by that time. 12 rippers and 10 Guargoyles is still a decent amount of wounds fodder (46 in total), flyers list will probably have a hard enough time hurting me that ill be able to outscore them. and 2x flyrants is still better anti air then a lots of other lists bring

As long as you still buy some stuff from forge world then okay
I like your list - I want to take a Dima every game I play now but it always needs a moving buddy to tank some wounds.
I also feel very uncomfortable not taking a hive crone! I guess that's just me though

I could see myself running something like this:
Flyrant (TL Devourers x2, Egrubs)
Flyrant (TL Devourers x2, Egrubs)
Termagants x14
Termagants x13
Malanthrope
Exocrine
Exocrine
Flyrant (TL Devourers x2, Egrubs)
Flyrant (TL Devourers x2, Egrubs)
Rippers x3 (Deepstrike)
Rippers x3 (Deepstrike)
Malanthrope
Carnifex (TL Devourers x2, AG)
Carnifex (TL Devourers x2, AG)
1998
All I really did was trade the Dimacheron, Gargoyles and 1 Carnifex for 2 more Hive Tyrants, and some Rippers for a gaunt shield.

what kind of moving buddy there Wilson? another Dima?
I like your version of this list Mr AlmostMercury, I had to doublecheck the rule about intervening models cuz I thought the gaunt shield doesnt help to give cover since they are so small compared to the MC but it still works, as long as the MC are on the same level or lower than the gaunts (or not being shot at my a barrage weapon).
Thats great!!!
Im gonna reconsider my troops choice now

Thanks man, I appreciate it.
I was looking at the Gargoyles and I felt that 10 of them wouldn't amount to much beyond a small screen anyway. So, I figure saving a few points by combining that function into a cheap troop choice would be a solid plan. Rippers are great in their function, but 2 is enough so the other 2 required slots can work to save the MCs.
The other part is that for each Hive Tyrant you take you gain the firepower of a Carnifex anyway, and the Mawloc and Dimacheron are certainly not that powerful even if they are good. It makes the list better against Pskers, flyers, and vehicles too.
If you're playing where the second CAD isn't allowed but self-allying is, you can always drop the 4th HQ, put in a FA Dimacheron with some points to spare.
When you run the Dima model be sure to let us know how it goes!

just noticed you also took out a mawloc, so there is a considerable amount of less MC wounds (8) but its still a nice list.
I think that maybe trying to squeeze a third Flyrant woud be ok but 4 flyrants is a bit cheese, for a competitive setting though it could be alright. Also their Wound to points ratio isnt nearly as good as the Dima or Mawlocs and this list is trying to max out on MC wounds.
Both would be a fun MC mash though.
by taking out the guargoyles from my original list and exchanging 2 units of rippers I can get 2 units of 16 termagaunts and Egrubs on the Flyrants.

4 Hive Tyrants is certainly cheese and intended to be highly competitive, which I think that list is on it's way to being. The problem is that most tournaments don't seem to be allowing multiple CADs. So, you're right that 3 is probably the magic number for strength and fun.
The thing about the Mawloc is that you're only likely to get 3-4 Deep Strike attacks and never more than 6. And to get that relies on a turn 2 reserve roll, short scatters, and no mishaps that result in death. I like Mawlocs, but I feel that you should run 2 or 3 and guide them with Deathleaper and/or Lictors. If you run 2 Mawlocs and 2 Ripper Swarms, I'd slam Deathleaper into the 4th HQ slot.
And the reason I would run a Flyrant over a Dima is because of pure utility. For competitive considerations you would never replace your Flyrants with Dimacherons, so naturally I would max out on Flyrants before adding a Dima.

Hey guys!
Loving the lists here! Makes me excited to try some new variations!
I also think that 4 flyrants is kind of cheese. I run two in my list right now. They are awesome for sure. But sometimes they can get taken out pretty damn quick. Is bringing 4 of them really worth it? I am still learning the intricacies of 7th ed. but having for flyrants is playing unchained (unrestriced or whatever they call it) isn't it? And if thats the case, why not put the points elsewhere to get more wounds or more dakka?
I was looking at the FW rules though and the malanthrope didn't look all the great to me. I have also seen two different versions of his rules. Total newb, I know... Been playing for 2 years now but I am also a second year medical student. So please forgive me when I ask which book has the most current rules? Is it Imperial Armor Assualt Volume 4? Or is it the apocalypse second edition?
Thanks!

You can run x2 CAD and get 4 HQs I think that's too many, but that is a "style" thang. Malanthrope is awesome, it is a Veno, that has Synapse, extra wounds, a good save, and can regen, the wacky extra rules just add to the madness. all for less than two Venos, or a Veno+Zoey. I really like Zoeys, but even I am considering putting two Malanthropes in my base list.

Hive Tyrants are the most powerful unit in the codex in terms of their versatility. Many of the Hive Tyrants qualities are matched by other units, but nothing comes close to being powerful and useful in so many areas. Playing with 4 isn't unbound if you're using two Combined Arms Detachments and you have the 4 required troop choices to go with it.
The Malanthrope just received new rules that you can find in Imperial Armor vol 4 2nd edition which has been out for a month. Basically, for 85 points you get the Synapse of a Zoanthrope combined with the functionality of a Venomthrope, but on a much more survivable body (including regen) and a pile of other rules in addition. The Malanthrope is probably our best support unit.

I use the Mawloc as a big pile of wounds, its the most efficient format of MC wounds, 140pts for 6 wounds T6 and 3+ Arsv is nice. So he’s just there to come out and be a big distraction, hopefully after causing some damage in his double blast deepstrike and then get ready to tie up one of his strong shooter unit. In this role I don’t find that more then one or maybe two would be needed. I lost mostly all my faith in deathleaper when his anti psyker ability stopped being usefull (-d3 ld was great against psykers when they tested on their ld, but not anymore) and the pheromone trail ability is horribly thought out, the lictors are frail creatures and to guide the mawlocs they have to wait right beside the unit they want to guide the mawloc on, the targeted unit needs to stay close to the lictor for the next full turn and not kill the lictors standing right beside them saying hi, it just doesn’t seem like something that will work often against a smart opponent. It can work, with the right terrain, but i cant depend on that too much, and having a taxe of lictors/deathleapers on the Mawloc steals his right to brag about a good point per MC Wounds ratio. Automatically Appended Next Post: I updated the list on the first post, it now has 2 DIMA!!!!!!!!

Well, you know I am a big fan of Tyranofex, and I normally kit it with Adrenal, and a Thorax Hive for the self same 200 points.

yeah, and Dima can still do pretty good against infantry, with its potential 12 attacks if it rages and gets a 3 on rampage.
