I just ran out of Chaos black and feel they run out a little to quick for my liking.

I was building some Renegades all morning, as the last bits came in the post, and when ready to undercoat, I only had enough for weapons and belt bits.

Yes I've only had 3 or so in the past year, and have done a lot of models in that time, but it feels like too little undercoat for my euro.

Anyone know if the alternatives like P3, Army painter et al last longer, have higher capacity etc?

Also are alternatives any cheaper.

I've looked at them in the past and they seem cheaper, even with P&P off ebay, as my local GW store is over an hour away via public transport, and 45 min in a car if you're lucky.

I am not sure if you can get it it, but I have been using testors flat back spray for my undercoat/prime and it works good and at about $4 a piece (not sure what the conversion would be) I can get quite alot of stuff primed.

It is the way of Fenris. We stay as long as we can. Fight as hard as we can. Kill as much as we can. Only when we can do no more do we move on.

Sometimes you gotta roll the hard six!

I've heard other people complain about it, but I have few complaints about plasti-cote super black primer. And then a lot of people swear by cheap automobile primer - Halfords etc.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

Never used the GW sprays, so I can't say whether another can will contain a higher volume of paint. I can say, however, and with near-absolute surety, that 99% of the alternatives will give you more bang for your buck... euro. Whatever. I'm a firm believer in the use of cheap flat enamel sprays on plastics. The $1 cans from Walmart are noticeably lighter than cans of Krylon, Rustoleum, etc. but the difference in price still leaves them with a bit of an edge, in terms of value. See if you have any equivalents at local hardware/home improvement stores.

I can't comment much about GW's sprays as I've not used one for over a decade.

I can say that Halfords offer a 500ml flat black paint that is nigh on identical to chaos black primer spray - comparing the quality, flatness and durability of my sprayed model vs one sprayed at a GW store by the manager with their brand. (technically one is paint and one is primer.. but this appears to not mean much this particular time, both adhere very well due to solvents in the paint, and both are very black and very flat and high in tooth.)

500ml Halfords matt black costs less than 400ml of GW chaos black.
I use all Halfords sprays, primer grey white and red, black paint, khaki cammo paint, glossy and matt lacquers.

Nothing wrong with any of them.

Prices are mid range when seeking other suppliers and brands, but cheaper than any hobby brand.
Availability the draw for me, theres a halfords store less than 10 minutes walk away and they serve all my rattle can needs really... its actually closer than the GW store by about 3 minutes too

Thanks for the tips.

I was worried some of the other spray "paints" may not be up to scratch. But it seems many have switch away from designated hobby goods already.

I'll try a few out to see what works. I think I can sacrifice some "Undead" units as test models. (yes pre tomb king/vampire counts skeleton warriors)

I know £ stores (€2 stores in practice) stock a few cheap spray cans.

I'll try Homebase /Woodies/Halfords and other such equivalent home depot retailers when I get a chance.
