I was looking to build an army with 2 units of thunder wolf cav. I was wondering what else would be needed in the army to make it work better. I know slamming into a knight with them would probably hurt me more than it. Does anyone have suggestions on how to make this competitive or am i just wishing.

Two good sized Thunderwolf units is certainly a neat for for an army, giving you a pair of units that are fast, tough and got like freight trains. For supporting them, the first thing you'll want is some characters. Iron Priests on Wolves are great for adding a 2+ save and a bunch more attacks, and a mounted Wolf Lord will tear up most things with the right gear (Frost axe/shield is a good one). Alternatively, you could add a Priest of either type on a bike for some non-combat support or re-rolls.
For the rest of the army, you want units that will compliment the TWC. Fast units such as Swiftclaws, pod-mounted GH or Blood Claws in a LRC would all be nice additions.

I haven't played much since last November so I know that there have been some heavier armor models added to the game such as knights. These seem to be my biggest worry, I know I could ram the thunderwolves into them but that doesn't seem to be the smartest plan. What would work to take out armor, grav guns on space marine bikers?

If your open to allies then SM bikers with grab or melta can make short work of armoured targets and would also fit with the speed of the army. Inside the codex Grey Hunters with meltaguns and a combi-melta can achieve something similar.
On a side note, the internet likes to make out that everyone and their mothers are using Super Heavies in normal games just because the rule allow it now. This is far from the case in most situations and while some thought on how to deal with them is good, if you can handle a couple of Land Raiders then you can handle most SHV you're likely to see outside of a tournament list.

Are Imperial Knights Super Heavy? (Honest question, don't own that book.)

I realize that. That's not my question though. Are Imperial Knights of the type "Super Heavy Vehicle"? Or Vehicle (Super-heavy), or whatever the nomenclature is.

They are Vehicle(super-heavy) in their unit entry. I see they were allowed at BAO and will be at Nova even though other super heavies are banned this year I believe. I may be wrong though.

Yes, they are Super Heavy Walkers, but not Lords of War.

Dour Wolf Priest with Iron Wolf Amulet

They're Lords of War in all but name, simply because they get their own dedicated FOC slot, so you can combo Imperial Knights with a full Titan.

I'm planning to start space wolves with a similar list. Could a list with nothing but TWC (+ characters) and grey hunters in drop pods work? They kind of play a similar game of trying to be up in the opponent's face as soon as possible.

It can certainly work. Turn one, your alpha strike pods land while the Thunderwolves move up, hopefully the pods take out the threats to the TWC. Turn 2, your first wave of pods keeps shooting, the TWC get stuck in, and the second wave of pods can arrive with good covering fire and support.

Slot TWC with melta bombs and storm shields and they should hold up reasonably well even against a Knight.
