The dark behind the eyes.

Has anyone used Greenstuff to put 'eyes' into the sockets of a skull - so that it appears to actually have eyes, rather than just empty sockets?

If so, could you perhaps explain to me how you'd go about it?

(Or provide a link to a tutorial, in the very unlikely event that one exists)

Norn Iron

1) Place small amount of putty in socket.
2) Tuck in sides with fine tool tip and smooth surface to create roughly hemispherical shape.

Alternatively, glue a bearing ball in there.

1mm might be a bit large even for GW skulls. If so, look here too.

Or, grab one of those Britta or similar water filters, and break it open.

I'm sooo, sooo sorry.

If you need tiny beads theses cost like 1-2 quid. Nail art beads, buy online or from boots or superdrug ect.
Personnely for what you want I'd roll green stuff into tiny balls and place into skull apply tiny layer of liquid super glue if loose.

I pretty much always use this technique when sculpting eyes as I make faces in multiple layers.

Roll out a sausage of green stuff approximately as thick as you want the eyeball to be.

Very carefully cut two similar sized lengths (about as long as the sausage is thick) and roll those into balls in the palm of your hand; generally these will be very, very small so be careful not to squash them once you have a decent ball.

Carefully drop the eyeball into the socket; you might want to put the skull near the Green Stuff on your palm and then sort of roll it in as you can be fairly certain it will squash if you try picking it up.

Then you can either leave the Green Stuff to go off and maybe glue it in afterwards or you can use a small tool, probably a regular sculpting tool or you might want to use a sewing needle, and then press the Green Stuff into the socket by gently pressing around the edge of the eyeball.

This might well result in the ball being squashed or defromed but don't worry too much about that at this stage as you can carefully re-sculpt it whilst it's in the socket just be pressing all the way around the edge; having the thing as a ball just means it should be the right amount of Green Stuff and lets you place it centrally in the socket.

Do you just want a ball in there or are you actually talking about having a proper living critter with eyelids and all?

Cheers, that was very useful.

I've had a go, and I *think* it's worked ok - but I probably won't know for sure till it's painted.

Whilst eyelids would be nice, I fear that level of detail would be... optimistic for my level of skill.

I've found that 1mm glass beads work well for eyes in skulls and for rivets.

Well it's gonna look like some creepy model if you don't sculpt in eyelids, wasn't sure what you were actually going for though, lol.

I'm not a good sculptor, my tactic would be to jam enough greenstuff in the socket as I think it needs, then work it in to the shape of eyelids and eyeball, if it turns out I can't do it, come up with some other idea, lol.

Well, I think it's fair to sat that Red Skull has a somewhat creepy appearance anyway.

So far, I've got one skull with reasonable eyes, and another with eyes that are too big (my first attempt). I'll have a go at doing what you suggest, and see how they all look when painted.

If all else fails, I guess I could put an unmodified skull on a Catachan model, paint it purple and pretend I was aiming to make Skeletor all along.

If you're going to try my "technique" () to get eyelids, just have some good sculpting tools on hand and try and slowly work it in to the shape you want, it might not be possible to do it in 1 go, might have to build it up.

The other thing worth considering is that, on a lot of models, there is only a bottom eyelid sculpted as it gives the impression of complete eye without having to have such fiddly detail.
