Hello, should I varnish before or after applying static grass. I don't want the stuff getting all over my case and table.

Before. If you varnish after applying grass, you'll get little bits of it stuck to said grass. If you glue the grass down then shake off the excess before and after it dries, you'll be fine.

Before or after works fine if you are spraying the varnish (I use Testor's Dullcote). I've been doing it after the static grass application for years and have never had a problem with bits or blobs sticking to the grass.

That said, don't drench the model in varnish either. Light coats are the way to go.

I always spray after the model is completely done, static grass and all. I figure every bit of adhesive may help protect it. Not that clear matt is an adhesive mind you. But never a problem of lumps or such. I do however use super glue on the flock, static grass, sand and rocks, PVA glue peals up from the plastic base after time.
