So as is often the case, I have a couple more KoW rules/gameplay questions, so I figured I'd start a thread where all of this kind of stuff can go - and when myself or others have rules-specific questions, we can just bump it instead of starting a million threads.

This time, my question is about Line of Sight and hills. I'm wondering how people tend to do this? TLOS seems like it might not be the right way to do it, given that this is such an abstracted game, especially when it comes to shooting over friendly units (which can range in height by a huge degree) from the top of hills. I use old-style large flat hills for my KoW games, since they work far better with movement trays than more "realistic" hills and slopes.

Spoiler:

Sure, the Minas Tirith archers in the bottom left of the pic above can shoot over the heads of the Ogres right in front of them, but where/how far does that hill-advantage apply for?

So does anyone have any useful advice/official rules/improved house rules for this? I'm hoping for a really literal and straightforward solution, as seems to fit this game - Level 1 hills/level 2 hills, etc rather than replying on TLOS.

Don't know about the exact rules, but I reckon you could just say that anything on a hill can shoot anything at lower elevation regardless of intervening units. Anything on a 'level 2 hill' treats units on lower hills in the same way.

We play it that TLOS pretty much applies based on what the rules say. If the MT archers' leader can see the target unit, it can shoot.

Remember to treat intervening units as solid though. You cannot 'see' to shoot or charge by looking through the gaps in the ranks of an intervening model, pp.26.
