I read a small passage from a conversation in Scars (HH novel) where one of the advisors is talking to a very badly wounded Sergent and states that its lucky he is so tough or he would have been interred in a Dread. She then goes on to say that Scars dont believe in them or something to that effect.
Do WS use/have Dreads or are they inclined against them?

The Scars don't like Dreads because it's a confining experience, and they are no longer free to feel the wind and ride their bikes, and all that sort of thing.

To the Scars, being in a Dread is a fate worse than death (which is a fate they rather look forward to, in a way.)

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

Nope, according to the wiki...

"Dreadnoughts are also not employed by the White Scars, as the cold, metal sarcophagi of these mighty cyborgs evokes a horror of eternal confinement and induces a feeling of extreme claustrophobia that is a result of the White Scars' cultural foundation as nomads who wander the open plains of Mundus Planus' steppelands."

"To the White Scars, the thought of spending an eternity sealed within the ceramite sarcophagus at the heart of a Dreadnought, of never again feeling the rush of the air whilst hurtling towards the foe with blade in hand, is a truly horrifying notion."

"The White Scars also almost never field any Dreadnoughts, not only because of the slowness of those cyborgs, but also because every White Scars Astartes does not want to be crippled to the point that they must be entombed in a Dreadnought's cybernetic sarcophagus. Far better to die and allow their spirits to pass into the afterlife where they may roam free."

Lots of info there from the White Scars Wiki page.

It’s not like they are forbidden from using them. And WS successor chapters with a different homeworld/upbringing might have a softer stance on them. But as has been said, the basic WS hates the concept of the things.

That said, in my head, I picture a few of them collecting dust in the chapter’s armory. In times of dire need, when a marine has sworn some blood-oath to do something, the need to finish it might outweigh the dread of living in a box.

If you really want to include one in your list, you can. But I want to hear his story. Because it should be a good one.

The wiki is not fully reliable. They do have Dreadnoughts, but they are rare, and don't like to be interred in them. Like Grey Knights actually.

There was a write up awhile ago in a White Dwarf of a White Scar that requested to be placed in a dread, knowing what it would entail. He was on the hunt of a particular prey and did not want to stop until the hunt was completed.

Yeah, there will always be exceptions to the rule with this sort of thing. Sort of like khorne worship doesn't mean they like to do their business in your face axe in hand, some like to collect their skulls by blasting the gak out of you with a big feth off gun.

You can either go down the path game play wise to fit with fluff - if you are that way inclined, forging a narrative and all that jazz - to either do as suggested above and give the dready a target he has taken upon himself to hunt down and destroy, picking an enemy character each battle your dread is going for, or go down the route of the entombed fellow doesn't want to be there, in fact hates it, so is looking for the right challenge to take him down, in which case you could play it as a kamikaze type naught, charging headlong into the enemy lines all guns blazing looking for his final death.

So you say the wiki's not reliable, then basically... repeat what the wiki said (mainly that last quote, which says "almost never", not "never"). Okay.

The wiki's far more reliable than it used to be, even if it can't always be 100% trusted all the time.

Back on topic, as pointed out, the White Dwarf shows that it's still a rare but not-forbidden occurrence (in that particular case, the White Scar volunteered to be a Dread and had a reason to)

The White Scars had Dreanoughts in the very first play test army list written for Paul Sawyer by Gav Thorpe. Paul had just finished two Dreads and used them in that month's Whiter Dwarf battle report. Later when the WS Index Astartes article was in WD the White Scars lost them. And they were given a fluff reason not to use them; worse than death, etc.. It wasn't until the dawn of sixth ed that it was put in doubt again when a battle report featuring the models from the starter set were painted as White Scars which included a Dreadnought. They went from being not fluffy to just being a rare thing, and the background was changed again.

In my view; if you are just using the WS rules like everybody else is right now than do whatever. If you are painting them as WS then I wouldn't use any Dreadnoughts. Although, their successor chapter the Marauders is known to use Dreads.
