Hey guys. A friend and I recently decided to try and get back into the game after having not thrown dice to table since 3rd edition ("They did WHAT to power weapons!?"). We figured we'd start small with 1000 point armies. He chose Imperial Guard while I went with Eldar or, more specifically, a wraith construct Eldar army however I'm having some trouble building a decent army list.

My friend brags that his Imperial Guard army is capable of putting out 60 autocannon shots a turn which is pretty intimidating considering he only had 1000 points to work with. His army is pretty much just a huge amount of guardsmen with a worrying amount of heavy weapons. When I told him my current attempt at an army list had only 11 actual people in it he gave me his best Skeletor cackle and told me each of them would have to kill 15 or so of his to make it even.

Anyway, here's what I've been piecing together so far. Feel free to pick it apart and any advice is appreciated. It seems I'm going to need it.

HQ

Spiritseer

Troops

Wraithguard x 5 with wraithcannons
Wave Serpent with twin-linked scatter-lasers and shuriken cannon

Wraithguard x 5 with d-scythes
Wave Serpent with twin-linked scatter-lasers and shuriken cannon

Heavy Support

Wraithknight x 1 with suncannon and scatter-shield and scatter-laser

That comes to exactly 1000 points. I was hoping to get a hemlock wraithfigher in there but the wraithknight seems like a better idea.

Anyway, let me know what you think. Honestly I'm having trouble coming up with ways to avoid my entire, comparatively tiny, army getting dakka'd to death before anyone gets to do anything.

I feel like it's hard to make an iyanden army with 1000pts. Usually warhammer isn't exactly a game of rock-paper scissors but in this case it seems like you are trying to beat rock with scissors and it's probably just not going to happen. if he takes out your wraithknight turn 1 by firing everything else at it he can focus on the waveserpents the next turn and the wraithguard will probably go down to mass lasgun fire.

Yeah, I knew it was going to be difficult to counter his masses of infantry with the few models a wraith army allows but I'd hoped there was a way to make it work. I've seen a few 1000 point iyanden army lists around so it seems it's at least semi-functional but yeah, I'm really not sure what kind of tactics I could possibly use to avoid getting murdered in the first turn or two.
