So I've got three beautiful forge world dreads in transit that I ordered a while ago.
Now with no psybolt ammo they seem useless.

Especially considering they got more expensive and dread Knights got cheaper/do more.

So two questions...

How do you see a use for them with the nerf back down to normal?
I'm not a marine player so I don't really have a strategy mapped out. I don't want to change the guns because they were part of my conversion.

Secondly...I'm running two Ravens anyways. any merit to bringing the dreads along for the ride?

They suck in close combat and a melta would make more sense, but if you could drop them behind a few juicy vehicles that back Armour would be mighty attractive. Considering the Ravens will have melta, Las and the new missles at ap2 and I think you could hit hard. Support with draigo, libby, terms teleporting and purifiers in the birds. Eh?

Time to sell those dreads, it's incredibly hard to justify them with the price increase and no psybolt ammo. They were good but not stellar, now pales especially in comparison to the Dreadknight.

They are still Rifleman Dreads and as far as I know Rifleman Dreads are still viable

play space marines, bring a Master of the Forge, and get three more? It is very much a niche playstyle, but running a bunch of riflemen together is fun, and with the Iron Hands chapter traits, your opponent's will likely have as much fun playing against it as you do using it.

I would never make a decision like this before even seeing the actual rules. For all we know grand aegis automatically wins the game.

Honestly I still wouldn't sell a model I like just because of the current rules. The rules might last a few years (in this case ~4 years) whereas the model will last decades. Even then I doubt that the dreads will be worthless on the table and I bet they will be pretty good.

We have seen the rules, they are scanned all over the place.

Psyflemen got nerfed hard. Not only did they loose psyammo, but also got a increase in points. Never use them in competitive games. In fluffy/firendly shure use them.

I have 3 myself.....

If you want to use riflemen dreads, the SM variant is not that bad (or the FW variant witch can choose skyfire). Use SM as your primery with 3 dreads in elite. Then use GK as alliy or use the new GK formation..

I assume by "SM as primary" you mean a Combined Arms Detachment (CAD)? These aren't the same anymore, just remember that.

OT: Or just take a Combined Arms Detachment of GK and a Combined Arms of Space Marines. Ours are around the 130-140 mark with 2 auto-cannons, no venerable.

If I sound like I'm being a condescending butthole, I'm not. Read my reply as neutrally as possible, please and thank you.

With the slotlessness of the techmarine I was actually thinking about getting two cannondreads missile/tl las like the good old days

Another option, if you group is ok with using as is, is to make them into what we call "True Rifleman" in our group.

Thing about replacing both the weapons on a dread is the fact you then totally take away one of its aspects that 'justify' its points (the ccw). Take the above version for example, tl las and tl autocannon for 140pts. A predator with lascannon side sponsoons costs 25pts less, has better armour and can move faster if needed. It also has a slightly higher damage potential.
For 15pts less you can get a stormtalon with skyhammer for better damage output (4 tl st6 rending and 3 st7 at bs5 compared to 1 tl st9 and 2 tl st7 at bs4), far more mobile, can skyfire and is arguably better protected (one less armour and one less hp for the ability to only be hit with snapfire by most things).
And when compared to a BA furioso the las-auto dread looks lame. With magna grapple and frag cannon the BA dread comes in at 140pts too. Far greater firepower (as it will undoubtedly be podded) with 2 st6 rending templates, 1 meltagun and a st8 ap2 magna grapple shot. It has 1 better armour. And it still has a blood fist.

I honestly believe all dual heavy dreads to be a big waste of points. If you want to pay 120pts for 4 st7 shots, you may as well go for 10pts more and equip a dev squad with missile launchers for +1s and greater versatility with frag. Also note that despite being superior to the rifleman point for point, ml devs are still considered poor for their points cost.

You shoudl get some ccw and use them as regular dreads for engaging more targets witha stormraven
