Looking for a heavy hitter unit but I don't have a huge budget ($).
Are either of these a better value or long term investment?

Depends on rest of list and magnets. Cents are pretty good but need a lot to work.

Storm ravens are decent but are very ssituational.

People who stopped buying GW but wont stop bitching about it are the vegans of warhammer

You can't compare units in a vacuum like this. What's the rest of your list? What's the meta? What units does your army struggle against right now? Are you looking for a specialized answer to a particular threat or an all around unit?

If you just want a big hitter then I would say a Land Raider would be more valuable than either of those to be brutally honest.

The Raven can work but you can also lose it in seconds to an army well geared up to combat fliers. Much the same as a Crisis Squad geared with plas will rip the centurians to bits in moments.

Even with vehicles taking a knock in 6th (a little improved as harder to instaslag in 7th) AV14 all round and a pair of twin linked lascannons can bring the hurt, not to mention get an assault unit into play safely.

LR and assault termies, in my eyes still the cream of non death star vanilla marine units.

That's fair.
I always build my armies using all purpose units that I can swap in and out when required.
On the same theme, I build TAC lists that need to handle (most) anything that I come across.

Rest of the army is still in flux (being purchased piecemeal) so I'm fairly flexible at this moment.

I would get centurions, ally in space wolves and put them in a drop pod with tigurius for prescience or Ulrik for preferred enemy and monster hunter. If you do that you can add a storm wolf instead of a storm raven and get the best of both worlds.

My Landraider aleays get blown up... I agree though, the rest of your list may depend on what you get. The flyer can carry troops, and has nice weapon options. The Centurians are flipping awesome! But I have not used either in a game yet. Technically I can't because I run Blood Angels, and no I don't want to run another chapter mixed in my BA army...

I like to have something that can move to trouble spots, and with the ever changing objectives then mobility may be the key.

Crush your enemies, see them driven before you and to hear the lamentations of the women.

Land raiders are awful.

Storm Ravens are good. Grav centurions are amazing when built around properly (Tigurius, Loth, pod whatever).

Hardly, if you have a unit you need to get into assault, then they're almost always going to get the job done. If they die afterwards, then oh well.

That said, they should probably be about 50pts cheaper though...

Ive found iron hands land raiders to work pretty well. Unless you are playing necrons theyre pretty hard to kill. Any cheaper would be amazing though

Comparing two units that dramatically different in use in a vacuum is a good way to collect models with a thick layer of dust on them lol.

I have the SM codex, just no army for them (bought it since i was intending to get the army but decided not to since i have way too many orks/tau i need to build/paint still). Looking at their stats and other units, i dont think i would ever field a cent-based army with storm ravens in their place without swapping 2-3 other units too.
Might be the ork in me that says i cant just add a random unit or swap them, since that doesnt work for orks, but ever since i adapted that mentality for my tau theyve been doing better as well.

Look at your army and see where your empty spot is. Random stormraven isnt that big of an issue unless its coupled in a themed list of fast strikers or something like that.

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.

I find the Storm Raven is a remarkable value, in the BA codex. From what I understand, Centurians aren't very mobile, and the game of 7th rewards mobility over all else.

From a $ value perspective, you can transport 2 units in a single model, so instead of buying two drop pods, you could buy one Raven and transport a unit and a Dread. On top of that, it's quite a heavy hitter in its own right.

Ehhh the issue with the transport capacity of the raven is its really dangerous/loses Assault if it drops them via Zooming, and it becomes a very squishy target when it goes Hover.

Space wolves buddy of mine has this happen to him nearly every time he faces me. He brings the new SW version of the raven (face it theyre the same damn thing with slight rule changes/appearance). It comes in, shoots something with its nice guns, i immediately Stun or Wreck it before he can disembark the unit inside and the unit inside is either stuck in it again (since Stunned forces 18" movement straight forward, i.e. no hover mode) or obliterated from S10 hits that ignore armor saves.

I think if they removed the transport capacity of these ships and dropped the point cost accordingly they'd probably be spammed lol thats how good the ship is on its own, the transport is a trap/point sink.

Good call on the transport for the flyers. If they took that out and reduced the points, they would be just perfect.

As it is, i've yet to see someone play Stormravens as actual transport units instead of the gunship I usually see it played.

Back on topic:
Centurions are great if you have someway to move them around to where you need them to be (librarian, LR, or SW dropship ally)

Personally, I've had more luck with Stormravens since I keep them as a gunship role for tankbusting, having 3 helps offset bad reserve roles.

My suggestion? LRCs... New vehicle rules improved av14 from 6th. Roll up, and assault out of these boxes for fun. Bring your centurions later after you get them. Or roll Black templar chapter tactics and take these as dedicated transports
