Subject: Election Follies

Given some of the stupidity and silliness going around the world of politics lately, I decided to start a follies thread devoted to world politics. Like my former "eBay follies" thread we can put the smaller tales of unintentional levity that might not warrant a full thread of their own. What shouldn't go here are things that are truly newsworthy. Stuff like that should have a dedicated thread made for it.
So, to start it off, here is a little piece from the United Kingdom.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/southamerica/brazil/11046105/Brazilians-can-vote-for-their-own-Barack-Obama.html
AFP wrote:Brazilians can vote for their own 'Barack Obama'
A congressional candidate for the ruling Worker's Party in Brazil is running under the name Claudio Henrique Barack Obama
Claudio Henrique dos Anjos, 45, will be running for Congress in elections for the ruling Workers Party under the name Claudio Henrique Barack Obama.
In Brazil, where nicknames are everything, voters can now opt for a congressional candidate who goes by the name Barack Obama.
He is black, like the US president, and running for Congress in elections on October 5 for the ruling Workers Party.
His real name is Claudio Henrique dos Anjos and a court has allowed the 45-year-old to run in the election with ballots that read “Barack Obama.”
On his website, he goes by the longer name Claudio Henrique Barack Obama.
On Tuesday he formally presented his candidacy, and in the short time allotted him on television, he launched the terse slogan “Vote for Barack Obama!”
Electoral laws in Brazil give candidates leeway to choose the name they want to go by in campaigns.
Here, people’s nicknames are almost always more well known than their real names. For instance, Edison Arantes do Nascimento is the football legend better known as Pele.
Former president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva eventually incorporated his nickname Lula into his formal identity.
And in this election there are candidates who go by such monikers as “O Nojento” (The Disgusting One) and another who calls himself “Pijama”.
Prosecutors tried to block Dos Anjos from using the name Obama but in August a court allowed it, saying it was harmless.
The October 5 polls will renew part of the Congress as well as electing a new national president and state governors.

This sounds like the plot of an Eddie Murphy movie.

I hope this wasn't international only, if so my apologies. This is definitely something A.) political B.) Kinda stupid and C.) Doesn't warrant it's own thread:
So, President Obama wore a tan suit. (some NSFW language) The twitterbooks went nuts.
And there was a defense piece.
While it's no Watergate, I have to say, I am not a fan. There is something vaguely unpresidential about a tan suit in my opinion (and there are pictures of some former presidents wearing even worse). That being said, I know sweet fethall about fashion, so what do you guys think?

I keep saying it. Any president not wearing a suit painted like an American flag just isn't presidential enough;
Peter Griffin does not approve.

Well, I guess we know where Crazytown, USA is located.

Associated Press wrote:Colorado town sues all its voters over election
CORTEZ, Colo. ( AP) — The Colorado mountain town of Montezuma is suing its 61 registered voters in an effort to sort out the results of an April election that the lawsuit says was filled with errors.
The Denver Post reports ( http://goo.gl/vfDSB6 ) that the lawsuit filed last week commands the voters to appear in court so a judge can examine the election results for mayor and town board.
Twelve people ran for mayor and Lesley Davis won by three votes. There are claims that second-home owners participated, and Davis says 13 voters and at least two candidates were not residents of the town. She says the lawsuit is the only option to determine how to move forward.
Several town residents have hired an attorney to challenge the lawsuit.
Best reader comment: "61 people and they can't hold a fraud free election. We are doomed as a nation." - Patricia
