Subject: Games Workshop Purity Seal Tutorial?

Infiltrating Broodlord

Hey guys, it's been a while since my last post in this section, and I have run into a snag. Does anyone happen to have the information on an old article released by GW on how to make homemade purity seals? I am working on some marines, and I decided to just make the chapter's emblem to be a purity seal, so I am going to need plenty of extras of them, using that casting method if it works out well enough.

This horror, this abomination, has thought and purpose that functions on an unimaginable, galactic scale and all we can do is try to stop the swarms of bioengineered monsters it unleashes upon us by instinct. We have given the horror a name to salve our fears; we call it the Tyranid race, but if is aware of us at all it must know us only as Prey."

Handy, but is there really no way to track down that old GW article on molding purity seals?

Why would you bother? Purity seals are one of the easiest things to sculpt... From my brief experimenting, I found it far easier to just make them from scratch instead of press-moulding them.
Has the added advantage of giving you more variety to them as well.

I looked at this topic and thought it was gonna be a joke, 3 stage - photo of Purity Seal (varnish), photo of bin, photo of Purity Seal in bin. Done.
As for the actual topic, yeah, sculpt from scratch, it's easy and a great confidence builder for more complex things later.

Well, thing is, anything beyond simple tends to make me extremely nervous. About the most insane conversion to date has been converting Deathleaper's rubble into a rock...and even then I spend far longer than I should have to make sure it looked good... Also, I like seeing multiple different methods before I decide on the one I will attempt.

The best way to not be nervous is to practice it. A purity seal really uses very little Green Stuff so it's not like you'll be wasting loads. Just get a blob of it, a piece of card, and make a line of 10 or so. You can experiment with different styles, tools, textures and techniques without committing anything to a model. You'll very quickly find yourself improving and then you can start either using those 10 on your models or creating new ones specifically for them.

Fair enough. I hope if that is the case, I can make a decent shoulder pad with this mounted on it.
