So yes, it's heresy that knights would ever be allied with Tyranids. But for an upcoming tournament I want to design the most competitive list I can get. I hate the fact that this is something I'm even attempting as a long time exclusive Tyranid player...

3 deep striking rippers

2 Biovores

Total 1840

Just looking for some feedback. Will it stand toe to toe with the best lists? Maybe not, but I'd at least like to make them work for it...

I would swap a mawloc and the 2 biovores for a crone and another unit of deep striking rippers.

Why do you suggest that? Crone's got ripped a new one with 7th edition rules and since the Knights are present, AV13-14 shouldn't be the problem the are typically for Tyranids.

I would think that having 2 Mawlocs is more effective (barring not having Objective Secured). My opponents will have to be much more specific when deploying models since the TftD has a significantly increased chance of doing anything.

I think if you had something else you wanted to spend the 85 points on you could go down to 1 malanthrope. Your ground element isn't very large and with all the units coming in via deep strike, TFtD, etc... you likely won't be in malanthrope shrouding range anyways.

True dat, but that would leave him with very few Synapse... I'd keep both. I suppose you could drop one Malanthrope, add a Zoey, and get one more Deepstrike Ripper swarm...that should hit 1850...

So what you're suggesting (if I understand your correctly):

1) Drop a Mawloc and Biovores for a Crone and more rippers in order to take advantage of the 2nd Malanthrope shrouding OR
2) Drop the 85 point Malanthrope since my ground presence isn't very strong.

To maybe shed light on what you're suggesting...The second Malanthrope is a redundancy thing. I want the ability to provide synapse and shrouding to more than one "cluster" of units while requiring my opponents to focus fire on both until dead. By having two, if my opponent can't destroy both Turn 1, I get to disrupt them Turn 2 with units that distract very well, i.e. Malwocs.

I would support the idea of dropping both because as you mentioned they're use is limited because of the units they can buff.

Either one makes sense, but as you know, I obsess about Synapse. I think you can drop one, and put Synapse back in, and gain more ground presence. If you go all "Wings of Darkness" I think you'd do fine as well. But I think having Shrouding is a very big deal, as a counter to "Alpha strike" armies. And that is a stratagem that seems to be on the rise. (Pod armies FTW!!! ) So personally I would not drop both. But I likely would drop one...
