Subject: How to deal with a Stompa ( 1500-1750 games, SM/DA ) ?

So I guess I will be facing a Stompa quite often, and am looking for some tips on how to deal with it. The Tau are generally considered slightly unbalanced with their firepower, and I´ve seen them fail to destroy the Stompa, and it healing up to 7 hp in one turn. Now, I play any combination of DA and SM, and I know my firepower doesn't even come close the Tau. I got tacticals and Sternguard in pods blistering with melta ( that are usually somewhat capable of taking down a Knight -if- I roll well, but this thing is on another level of durability ) but probably the Stompa will be surrounded with boyz to negate the melta range bonus.
So I´m looking ideas to reliably compete with this thing without buying a superheavy.

U have meltadrop and assault termies. Or plain ignore it. Stompa's killy but it's also quite expensive - so pretty well priced and playable against. Just if it's loaded with meks - don't bother trying tokill it unless you're 100% sure it's gona go down in 1 go.

Get past the Boyz with a bunch of flamers, and then run in with a unit with as many meltaguns and melta bombs as they can carry.
Or you could try lascannon spam, especially if you manage to flank it. Automatically Appended Next Post: From an IG point of view, I look to three veteran squads in chimeras with the Demolitions upgrade. Each man gets a meltabomb, and one man gets a det pack.
Stick something else big and nasty on the other side of the field, you opponent will rarely stop the vets.

TH/SS terminators will do a number on a stompa, outside of lucky rolling sixes for stomp or destroyer wounds, it has a hard time killing those. You might want to deliver them in a landraider with that 4++ thingy in it to keep them save from the deff kannon (S10 AP1). The godhammer can even contribute by chipping a couple of HP off with its lascannons and multimelta.
SM Storm ravens do a pretty good job here, since a stompa can't do a whole lot about them. Unsure about the DA specific stuff, never heard any good about their fliers. Meltas of all kind also work for taking a bunch of HP off, just stay way from dreads. The stompa can handle AV12 with ease and even stomp them to death.
On top of that, you can easily block it with rhinos and drop pods, forcing it to keep away from stuff you don't want in assault. Walkers can't thunderblitz, so it has to either smash them, waste one of its awesome guns on them (which would be much better at killing MEQ than vehicles) or go around them.
If someone is pulling repair shenanigans, keep in mind that it's only a 5+ roll. Getting 0-2 is more likely than getting 7 successes. Just make sure that you hit it with everything at once, so a lucky streak of repair rolls on your opponent's side doesn't break your neck.
Failing that, the stompa has three dangerous guns, the S10 AP1 massive blast, one S7 AP3 gatler (6d6 shots at up to three targets, but breaks on a double) and it's 5 supa-rokkits (S8 AP3 large blasts, one use). Everything else just annoying, but not strong, including the close combat attacks. If it has already jammed its gattler and the rokkits are gone, ignoring it is a viable option. Despite its impressive stats, an S10 AP1 blast is not going to kill a whole lot more than a pair of basilisks.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

Just to make sure: Don't the Orks have a relic for Meks that gives +2 to repair rolls. If you combine Grot Oilers with this you'd have a rerollable +3 repair roll until the Oilers are used?

Not sure if you're suggesting that all meks get the +2.
The actual wording of the relic lets a single big mek carrying the relic succeed on a 3+.
In each of your Shooting phases, instead of firing a weapon, a model equipped with da Fixer Upperz can choose to repair a single friendly vehicle he is in base contact with or embarked upon. To repair a vehicle, roll a D6. If the result is 3 or more, you may either restore a lost Hull Point or repair a Weapon Destroyed or an Immobilised result instead; this is effective immediately.
So you basically have one reliable roll per turn an a lot of unreliable ones.
