Hello all,
Im new to dakka dakka, heard great things. Excited to show off some of my models, but for now im needing some direction.
I have been looking for exampes of homemade drop pods. It kills me to not use an authentic model of a DP but for the cost I just cant see buying a handful of them. And as I appreciate the real thing, I dont want to just use some makeshift, pvc object with no resemblance of an actual DP. that being said, great things can be done with foamboard.
I guess im hoping to find better examples of homebrew DP's than the ones ive seen so far. So im hoping you guys and gals can point me in the direction of some remarkable examples, or some measurements to construct my own out of foamboard.
Let em fly, and thanks for your help.

Plastic coke bottles with fins to the proper width. One fellow used automotive air filters. They were awesome. Another just had paper templates with "this is a drop pod, really." Also do a search in the gallery for pods. That should give you some ideas. I like this one: http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/632462-mechanicum%20drop-pod%20mounted%20void%20shield.html

A popular drop pod before GW made the plasic model were PVC pipe caps.

GW even once featured a Space Wolves army in one of their big catalogs that used them.

Black gobbo france once published a tutorial on building your own drop pods. Might be worth looking into.

Google image search "drop pod template." The very first page has multiple sets of printable templates, as well as images of finished and in-progress examples. Papercraft has gotten rather advanced - many of these will get you a nearly perfect replica, if you build carefully.

Thanks guys. Ive seen some great options. Of course the replica papercraft stuff is amazing. There are some serious intense paper models. Trying to avoud the pvc options but soe look cool. I like to impress the other gamers, this should be fun.
If there are any new discoveries feel free to pm me, as this thread will likely dissolve

GW france even had the templates hosted on their site before the GW thing went to one global hub (and they got told to take it down).
11 of my 15 pods were made from these templates. The other 4 were a single GW one and 3 miniaturescenery troop landers.
