Hey guys, Im in a moral dilemma.
I would love to play the following list:

Iyanden supplement, Unbound:

-Spiritseer, Stone

-Wraithknight, Glaive, Shild, 2x Starcannon

-Wraithknight, 2x Wraithcannons

-Wraithknight, Suncannon, Shild, Scatterlaser (Warlord)

Thats exactly 1000 points.

This is suppose to be a Crone-world expedition team, a fluff-list, (this will makes sense to those who know the Eldar fluff) and deals with a part of the background (Crone-worlds) that I find very interesting. As a non-Eldar player, I figured this would be very interesting to play, since you pretty much just have 3 models on the table and one buff unit. Im sure it would be challenging, trying to keep target prority and such in line with factors like linebreaker, objectivs and avoiding tarpits.
This is not designed to bash faces in, since I only play with friends for fun.

Now, the moral dilemma is that Ive asked a few people about this list, and all Ive heard is that it wont be fun to play against 3 Wraithknights. One thing in advance: We mostly get together and play teamgames, mostly 2 players per side, which makes 3 Wraithknights on a 2000 point team. Does that still sound too much to deal with?
There are many players who regard the Wraithknight as a waste of points etc.

I still havent bought the models, but I would love to, because the models are beautiful and I would love to have an army with extremely low model count (kinda like Imperial Knights). Now I ask you for your usual opinions of this list, its strenghts and weaknesses (remember: Ive never played it before, Im not an Eldar player but know their rules well), but also about your opinion on the matter of acceptance among my friends. I dont want my purchase to be in vain, for I might not find players to have a match with after a few games.

I think this is the point where I would wish for Wraithknights to be worse game-wise, because then my list would be easier accepted and I could just field the models I like.

best regards

Well, in a team game the above list is fine.
But I wouldn't bring it in a stand-alone battle.

Whilst it is certainly a 'different' list, I think you'd be lucky to find someone willing to face it more than once. It may be tactically challenging to you, but to the opponent he's got 50-80% of an army with no chance of wounding a WK - without tailoring a list (or playing DE) it's going to be really boring.

Also, for a fluffy list, I'd have difficulty justifying it against anything but Daemons. You're on a Crone world looting some waystones, suddenly daemons! Perfect! But replace that with "suddenly, Tau!" and it makes less sense (and now I'm inventing a custom scenario in my head of WK's collecting stones vs. waves of daemons...) .

Plus, you've got to get past whatever baggage your group piles on Unbound lists.

If one of your opponents is using multiple Imperial Knights though, totally bring this list (maybe more wraithcannons)!

As an unbound list I would have no problems with it, as I expect the highest quality cheese in such games.

If you played it as a bound list (just add some dire avengers in there, you can fit it in if you take some of the weapons of the wraithknights) then it would be quite an unbearable list to play against, unless you have ones of the few armies with good counters to such a list.

Thing is it would be horrible to come up against without being warned, I would expect to be told if facing such a list. But if you do tell your opponent it would be easy to tailor a list to beat it with most dex's. Its a conundrum.

First of all, welcome to Dakka!!

Well, playing that list all alone might make you that guy.
In a 2000 point game it wouldn't be that bad, altough it's still spamming and hardly any spams are greeted with warm smiles.
I suggest that you drop one Knight and get your basic Troops (to protect your Spiritseer).

2x Spiritseers
2x 5 Dire Avengers

Wraithknight Ghostglaive & shield (+ Starcannons)
Wraithknight Suncannon & shield (+ Scatter laser)

This still gives you some points to spare. Concider having the shield (forgot the name) on Dire Avengers for a squad-wide 5++. Then you would have Inv save for your whole army.

This gives you a list of 14 models (still ridiculously low for 1000 points). Damn, it's low for 500!
It's not as fluffy maybe, but also not as spammy.

A lot depends on your local playgroup. Assuming you are playing missions from the book, I would not mind playing against it at all as your list has all of 4 models and is Unbound. What this equates to is really an uphill battle for you to play. Most missions are objective based and you have zero Objective Secured. However, based upon some feedback on this site, your mileage may vary. Again, a lot depends on your local playgroup.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

thanks for all the feedback guys!

haha, thanks

yea, this idea evolved in my head too.
it makes the list more bearable for my opponent, and will give protection for my seer/s, making it possible to play 1on1 in 1k matches. (with a warning to bring some more AT then usual, i play with friends and want them to have fun)

this is what ive come up with, i really dont want to use "off-themed" choices like guardians or avengers, instead try to keep the count low and the models sturdy.

-Spiritseer, Stone
-Spiritseer
-Spiritseer

- 5x Wraithguard

-Wraithknight, Suncannon, Shild, Scatterlaser

-Wraithknight, Suncannon, Shild, Scatterlaser (Warlord)

Thats exactly 1000 points again.

as i said, the wraithknights should be the theme of the list, and the 3 seers will try to keep em alive and/or buff/debuff accordingly. the wraithguard function as bodyguards.
in a few weeks ill try this list and see how it goes.
what do you guys think?
