I recently started a project of converting some Nurglings, giving them Tyranid Gargoyle wings and calling them Furies.

Now I have no idea how I would use them. The Ld2 on them makes them hilariously bad if they ever have to take a DI test, but would they be worth taking with a Character at all? Would they have been better off as Slaanesh for Rending? I can probably muster up a few dozen more for Slaaneshi purposes but, I'd really like to know everyone elses experience (If any) with running them.

Give them Daemon of Slaanesh for rending and speed, and run a herald on a steed for leadership, rerolls to hit, and wargear/psychic goodies.
Khorne would also be alright, but they pale in comparison to khornedogs, which are more efficient point for point I think.
Nurgle, no character can keep up with them, so the needed leadership boost is lost.
Tzeench, they dont really bring much other than ablative wounds to the table. I guess you could use a few as cheap bodyguards for a disc-herald if you really didnt want to run screamers.

If I had to take them (why are you doing this to yourself!?) I'd either go Khorne or Slaanesh. Khorne will allow them to get a lot of attacks on the charge, which they will ALWAYS be doing. I think this would be ideal if you're running smaller packs. A flock of 20 would have to be slaanesh for me, though. As jump troopers, Nurgle's slow and purposeful is going to ruin them. They're really going to be depending on their charges to do a lot of damage, otherwise they're going to wind up getting wiped out if there's not massive losses on the other side due to instability. I'd rather have swarms of nurglings, rofl.

It hadn't even crossed my mind to attach a character. Yeah, they might work as padding for a Herald of Tzeentch on disc or something. In that case, though, still rather have screamers. They're really an inferior unit, but they're so freaking cheap. I say MSU of Khorne would be the only thing I can think of. A full sized flock of slaanesh would be able to peel open some light armor with lucky rolls and with luck av12, though.

The physical cost of furies is insane, by the way. 30 bucks US for 5? If you'd ever actually run them, converting is the only option, lol.

I know I know! Haha. There are WAY better options out there. Seekers, Khorne Hounds... But I really was adamant on slapping wings on Nurglings Maybe that will just be a pet-project for the time being.

I really do like the idea of putting a few Heralds of Slaanesh in there. 1 To take Beguilement and the Grimoire, the rest taking Greater Etherblades. All being Psychic lvl 2 with 1 for sure rolling for Cursed Earth within the Maelefic Discipline. The others could roll for Telepathy and the Slaneshi Powers, oddly enough they're not so bad now! lol I mean Acquiescence was never bad for denying Overwatch and counter attack, but even the Beam at str 6 is nice. Hell even the Nova could be useful if my opponents try to grind through wounds and assault me with several units.

Well, you have to look at what else they can do besides kill stuff.

1) They're fast attack, a fairly unused FoC slot. Not as unused as Elite though but not as used as Heavy Support.

2) They are very point effective but not if they have to take a leadership check in close combat.

So either attack very, very weak groups where you are confident you will not have to take a LD test, or attach a fast moving herald and tarpit a maulerfiend or walker or something is what I see here.

The low Ld only ever became a problem for me when my mate got his Psychic Shriek off nearby. Other than that, why would you send them into a combat you expect them to lose? They are very fast, especially if you take them as Slaaneshi Furies like I do.

I like using squads around 5-8 big, and attack heavy weapons teams, light vehicles (S4 rending, hitting rear armour in combat, many attacks). They are good at getting rid of Obliterators, chasing down loose characters, etc.

Of course, there are other choices in fast attack you may prefer, so that's a fair enough choice, but if think they are more useful than they first appear.

I disagree, in a slot with Hounds and Seekers they're an odd choice. They would probably do pretty good as an antitarpit unit as well. I imagine they'd really put the hurt on squads of IG, which is why I said to go for Khorne, so they can pour on as many attacks as possible before such things get a chance to even hit back.

20 Furies of Slaanesh w/ a Herald and a Beguilement will wreck shop.

People also forget their ST4.

It's also like a 230ish point squad I think for 20 of them and a Herald on a steed with Beguilement , maybe a little more.

Don't forget they get Hammer of Wrath at ST4 that rends which kind of makes up for them not getting 2 attacks base. It's a pretty cheap glass hammer unit though but it can actually kill a Imperial Knight if it charges and get's a Hammer of Wrath.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

I would crack up seeing furies tear apart anything with 13 armor. It's gonna take some luck but it could happen. You might want to bring along a chicken to sacrifice before the match, though.

When you get a S4 jump unit that comes with fear and a 5++ for that price it can't be bad! The problem is that some of the heavy lifters come in the same slot. If you play with more than one character how about adding a second CAD with just a HQ, nurglings and furies?

As I read it you can leave the unit unmarked, which is one of my favorites as it is soo cheap. All the marks have benefits, but I think my preference is slaanesh for speed and rending.

I play CSM primary and the above CAD works fine for adding small scoring units that excel at finishing things off. Pop a chimera and have the furies eat guardsmen that stumble out of the wreck. Works every time!

Unmarked furies makes me wonder if there is a way to run them with a CSM character...

You can't as units with daemonic instability can only be joined by an IC with demonic instability

Also their hammer of wrath doesn't rend even if they are slaanesh aligned. They'd be a lot more useful if it did. That said, slaanesh furies with a herald on steed with the exalted locus are good for the points you pay. I think I'd still rather have the more reliable hounds or versatile screamers though.

I even find it competitive because they are so cheap and hit so hard. I bought 20 raging heroes praying mantis models and fixed maxmini dragonfly wings on them. Its incredibly beautiful if I may say it myself, but quite expensive ofcourse. I might buy 20 more to flow the field with 40 XD

They have daemon of khorne, not mark of khorne. So, furious charge, not rage. Not that str5 attacks are bad, but there's not an overwhelming ammount.

Also, OP, I have trouble envisioning how nurglings with gargoyle wings will look. I mean, individual nurglings are TINY. Like, the size of a space marine helmet tiny.

If you're putting an expensive herald on a mount with them, they've stopped being cheap I've found. And the furies themselves are more like extra wounds.

I'd rather put the expensive herald with khorne dogs or seekers.

They also have low WS compared to dogs and seekers.

You'll have to explain to me how Hammer of Wrath is not a close combat attack. Because all their CCs having rending.

Because HoW specifically says it doesn't benefit from any of the model's special rules.

Also, a winged nurgling is a funny idea. I'd rather have feathered wings to make them look like perversions of cherubs, or fly wings. Bat wings would be funny, but they need to be so small that they don't look like the nurgling should be able to fly. Nurglings are supposed to be funny and jovial in my book. Gargoyle wings are just too big. It'd be funnier to buy some cheap rubber halloween decorations from dollar tree and cut the wings off.

Yup, exactly that.
