So looking through my Codex and I see that Chaos Lords with the appropriate mark get to take X troop instead of elites.

I could of sworn somewhere that the DP's got that rule too but I cannot find it..

Couldn't tell ya whether it's an old Codex or you've got a screw loose, but DPs definitely don't have that rule currently.

Could it be you're thinking of Greater Daemons in the Chaos Daemons codex unlocking their god-respective DPs as Heavy Support?
And a quick note to remember Tzeentchian Lords don't unlock 1K Sons. Sorcerers do.

Probably to due with DP's not being able to take Marks.
