Shadowsun is one of my favorite characters in 40K and I just picked up the model.

I am trying to figure out the bests uses for her in game though. I'd love to get your thoughts on how you use her,.

Only two criteria. I don't want to hear about putting her in a farsight bomb, I'm well aware of that use!

Also, while I'm not sure on the question of whether she confers infiltrate on a unit, let's just assume that she doesn't to keep it safe.

Thanks guys!

With a mass Kroot blob infiltrating into cover? Maybe with those autocannon Kroot guys? Added to a three man crisis suit team?

I typically run her aggressively with 2 crisis bodyguards.
I have shadowsun +command link
then 2 bodyguards fusion x2 +flamer
+a mix of shield drones and gun drones

nice to haves on the bodyguards one with Neuroweb System Jammer the other with Repulsor impact Field.

As far as i know infiltrate would confer to her unit, better double check 7th.

I deploy her as near armor backfield units as i can if i have first turn, closer to my army if I have second turn.

the command link drone gives her an almost 100% hit rate and boost her bodyguards up since they may not get marker support.

Why bodyguards and not a 3 man crisis team?
-Auto look out sir
-Majority toughness 4 not 3 (if you take kroot or stealth suits)
- wording for wargear lets a bodyguard take 3 systems AND a sig system

with her "almost splitfire" you can put 1 stray shot into a second target to increase her mayhem, alternately you could put target locks on the bodyguards.

Her warlord trait is always the 3D6 thrust move so she can (if you roll well) bounce in and out of cover in the enemy deployment.

As a T3 tau HQ many opponents think she is easy points for a warlord kill. if you cant thrust move far enough shes pretty vulnerable.

if a unit tries to roll her in assault you go through your list of tricks:
Neuroweb System Jammer - all enemy shooting gets hot
Overwatch - 4 fusion +2 flamers and any (TL) gun drones
Repulsor impact Field - D6 I10 hits, basically reverse hammer of wrath

Anyways its an expensive unit, she will draw lots of fire if used right and be a massive thorn in your opponents butt. but it means squishy fire wariors and kroot arnt getting shot or run down.

This is what I'm talking about!

Basically a unit in the opponents backfield that hey can't ignore, loaded down with all kinds of options that punish them for attacking her!

Good stuff. My only fear is that I will run into people who are finicky about the infiltrate rule issue.

Don't worry about infiltrating then - she can deep strike can't she? And if she's your warlord they'll get the 3d6 thrust so she can be fast.

I've run her a couple of times but I prefer to take her in a unit of three suits with a Shas'Vre with the PEN Chip to give the unit tank hunter/monster hunter. A second suit with VRT for Hit and Run, and a third with Target lock so I can potentially take out several vehicles a turn. I also like to take her shield drones for a nice 3++ which have helped soak up a lot of shots along with a couple gun drones in the team.

The stealth and shrouded is amazing - just look out for perfect timing/other ignores cover.

Mecha_b's suggestions are solid as well - I just personally save those systems for my other commander who's running with a plasma team giving them ignores cover and re-rolls.

I'd actually run her in a 6-Man stealth team. You still have auto-LOS, and get that many more wounds between her and death.

That gives a unit with 9 T3 wounds, auto-pass LOS rolls, 4 Fusion blaster shots per turn, 16 burst cannon shots per turn, stealth+shrouded, and JSJ.

Rule #1 is Look Cool.
Rule #2 is Do Cool S*%* Even If It's Tactically Inadvisable
Winning is something like Rule #17.

We just tinkered with a Shadowsun list here:

http://www.thedarkcity.net/t6960p840-a-tdc-blog-tactics-unit-analysis-batreps-observations#bottom

It is the last five posts. What you need is decent support. The list above is only 1500 pts yet can handle pretty much anything ... AA, AT and AI a plenty. I would not dismiss Shadowsun with 3 Krootox infiltrating. Remember also as an IC Shadowsun can hop around if there are other units forward (and there should be). It is about synergy. The list has to be built to support the squad you use to protect Shadowsun.

Shadowsun is a tank hunter, let her hunt tanks. 3 crisis suits with fusion blasters work great with her. Add gun drones to soak up wounds with 2+ cover saves.
