I like playing on a 6 x 4 table, It's a perfect size, but I want to try something else. I'm thinking of making an 8 x 4 table or even 8 x 5.
However, to maintain the 6 x 4 game, the deployment zones would be adjusted.

Say we have a table that is 8 x 4. The deployment would still be 12 inches, but only 72 inches wide, which gives more scope for outflanking manoeuvres and mobility.

On an 8 x 5 table the deployment zone is extended to 18" to allow more space for deployment. I know it's a bit wide, but it might still be manageable?

It might be better to make it modular out of 2 x 2 or 2 x 4 boards, but I also like the large seamless table.

What are your opinions or ideas on the subject?

I suggest you set up your 6x4 table and try leaning over the table to place models on the far side without falling over. If you're tall enough to do it, then I say go for 8x5 - alternatively you're entering the territory of the croupier stick

On a 5' wide table, 18" still leaves the standard 24" between deployment zones, so the only difference will be more deployment space and further for non-outflanking/deep-striking/etc. reserves to come on (such as Flyers). Not a huge issue, as it's just similar to the Hammer and Anvil deployment method.

A longer table (8' or whatever) with restricted deployment width (as you suggested) sounds fun for fast flanking manoeuvres, but will hamper units with the Outflank special rule. Again, possibly not a huge issue, depends on how many Outflankers you have in your group.

You'll also be able to play larger games and I'm jealous of your available space!

Yeah I was worried about that, it might be a no go. I'm still interested in the ideas of a 6' deployment zone on an 8' board, I think it opens up some good possibilites for gameplay especially for smaller games of 2000 pts or less

Yeah just moved into a place with a perfect sized shed/man cave so I'm quite lucky.

I’ve got an 8’x4’ in my basement. I normally just block off a foot from each side and use it as a 6’x4’. The extra space is nice for books and casualties. But for larger games, it can be nice to have the full space available.

If you go too deep, you do run into issues with moving stuff around, so there is a practical limit to how big you can go.

Different armies play at different levels on bigger tables. More space to cover to get to objectives/CC, more time under fire from long range shooting. You also need to make sure you have enough terrain to cover the larger space. More distance plus less cover is a double bonus to shooting armies.
