I have been trying to figure this out for a while and it is starting to get annoying but what are those chapters with unknown founding/home world? Here is a example http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Angels_of_Fury#.VAGZw_kmmHc

Why would games-workshop and the people that make the novels leave out so much information is it on purpose?

Thanks for reading if you do know anything about it that would be helpful

Sorry if this is is the wrong forum

Yes, it's on purpose. It creates a more mysterious / customisable universe for people to play in.

It gives you artistic license to make up your own stories. This is a good thing!

You need to understand that they aren't intentionally leaving out that information. It's just that a lot of the time, the chapter was only mentioned in a blurb, and that information wasn't relevant to the blurb.

The Angels of Fury, in C:SM53, literally appear only as a black and white logo and name on a star map (signifying their homeworld), and in a one sentence blurb about routing some Word Bearers. And again one throwaway line in IA:9 about the Novamarines being selected as a training cadre for the chapter.

The Lexicanum just diligently records every known mention of a Space Marine Chapter. And the only info they have on some of them is the name.

The blurb where the Star Leopards appear literally only says they had a Land Raider get stolen by some Eldar and fought them to get it back. It would read pretty silly if it said "A hundred Star Leopards, of the 15th Founding, and Ultramarines geneseed, from the planet Hoosefus IV, broke into a charge, shouting the name of their Chapter Master Bosequius Flambe." So yeah, they're leaving it out "on purpose", but it's not for any deeper reason than that. Not to make it mysterious, or even to annoy you.

Marneus Calgar is referred to as "one of the Imperium's greatest tacticians" and he treats the Codex like it's the War Bible. If the Codex is garbage, then how bad is everyone else?

They leave things out to be true to the setting, which is a galaxy wide bureaucracy in constant war. Information gets lost, garbled or any number of problems. They've had so many wars that last so long things just go missing/destroyed. The Adeptas Mechanicus don't even know what technology is in the depths of Mars. And that's their job. And they live their. Let that sink in.
