Hi there. About to start a tau army and have always followed the FOC chart or to be battle forged as it's now called. I like the idea of having the bonus of troops being scoring on a objective against a unbound army troops on the same objective HOW ETHER with the tau the fire warrior and kroot are so fragile I don't see the point of gaining the objective secured bonus when their likely to get wiped off the objective so quickly by other troops in a unbound army anyway and with them being so fragile I wouldn't see myself running either troop choice around the board to grab objectives as I would tend to have my fire warriors be more of a static gun line. So any opinions from people on why I would bother to go battle forged with my new tau army would be appreciated thanks.

Devilfish are not very fragile. they can get a 3+ cover save in the open with Dpod and jinx, on a 12 front platform.

And if you are enclaves, you got suits troops.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

You're gonna have a hell of a time finding matches for unbound. Plain and simple.

I must admit that is one point that puts me off not going battle forged is trying to find someone willing to play against a unbound army as I myself would rather play games of battle forged only. As for the devil fish note yeah I suppose they are more resilient for a troop choice with some fire warriors in. Just need to make sure if the fire warriors disembark that they have backup.

That's the key of "fire of fury", you only bother to disembark if you can go in for the kill.

The "benefit" of the devilfish in 7th under this strategy, is that it really does not care about jinx penalties, as it got practically no guns at all. a single burst cannon at bs3 is not something you care downgrading to bs1, you only lose on average about 1.33 burst hits-nothing you cant generate with ease.
The drones and the troopers inside lose nothing when you jinx, they just wait inside until the time is right to leap out and ruin somebody's day.

can neither confirm nor deny I lost track of what I've got right now.

Fire warriors aren't really objective campers, they are great crowd control and cleanup. Use the rest of your army to batter whatever units your opponent has sitting on objectives and then swoop in on the last turn or so, unload the firewarriors, and hose your opponent down with pulse rifle fire.

Also obsec devilfish are nothing to sneeze at. They are pretty darn tough and the fact that they can hold objectives after your fire warriors are dead means they stay useful throughout the game.

Troops arent objective campers. Theyre cheap tactical units.

Dumping two devilfish of firewarriors in doubletap range is going to ravage something, especially if you left an ethereal inside one of the fish. I have killed big bugs from full to dead with this tactic....not even joking either...slap a couple ML on the target and now you got a TON of shots firing at BS5. This tactic has actually gotten recognition by my meta to the point where they actively hunt my devilfish now to prevent it...which is fine by me since theyre still way cheaper than my broadsides and hella durable with a 3+ jink AV12/11

An ork with an idea tends to end with a bang.
