I did a bit of quick math trying to find out how many points each gun is worth.
Deffgun = 8 points (14 point loota - 6 point Boy profile)
Snazzgun = -6 points? (22 points of a flash git - 18 point Nob profile, 5 point bosspole, 5 point gitfinda)
Why would GW make a gun that costs negative points? Does this mean that Flash Gitz are way OP or are Deffguns worth 14 points more than a Snazzgun?

Because they're Nobz which can't take bikes or 'eavy armor. So despite having 2 wounds a piece they'll still take considerable losses from sprinkles of bolter fire.

Yea, to compare gitz like that to nobz, there's an opportunity cost you'd have to factor in all the things they can't take.

But are Deffguns worth the extra 14 points?

Oh yes, they are pound for pound the best ranged weapon in the book.
Between range, strength and volume of fire there isn't much outside of AV14 and T9 they can't handle.
My only qualm is their move from the Elite slot. In HS they compete with so many other awesome things.

Its not even that they compete with awesome things, its that they compete with things that are mandatory. Mek Gunz clear troops better than lootas since they can lobba out of sight (god thats sexy) and they dont die from long ranged weapons anywhere NEAR as easily. Battlewagons...you always take all 3 if you take them at all so no loota cover fire anymore. That hurts. Wagon lists now are strictly wheels, only way you can get any coverfire is a SAG or doing a dedicated-transport shenanigan to free up 1 Heavy to add some mek gunz. its not like comparing Sniper Drone squads to Hammerheads/Skyrays/Broadsides. Sniper Drones are technically good but are severely outclassed by the other 3 choices in usefulness, so you never see them. But, those 3 options are NOT mandatory for any list, theyre preferences. Wagons/mek gunz ARE mandatory. I dont think i would have won any of my games if my lobba batteries didnt goto town on some troop blobs trying to tie down my warboss unit and misc boy blobs.

Yeah, the pricing makes sense. I'd definitely give Flash Gitz 'eavy armor if they could take it - as is you have to put them in cover for sure (ruins for preference) and if you can manage it pointswise, attach a Painboy. And then hope they don't just get taken out by Ignores Cover fire first turn. Their gun's awesomeness is offset by the model's overall fragility.
I'd rather take Lootas than Lobbas - I used Lobbas for a while but was discouraged by the scatter that always happened if I kept them out of LOS. A battery of 3 barely hits anything. Better to take stock kannons, as you can still keep them very well protected in the backfield while not worrying as much about BS3. Lootas beat both, though, and if I have to choose I'll take Lootas rather than find room in my list for mek gunz (unless there's some fliers I really need to get rid of).

Clarify something for me? I haven't played 40k since 5th edition, but my Orks ran battlewagons + Ghazghkull + burnas + ablative wound nobs + Lootas.
if I understand this right, you can take Blitz Brigade (5 Battlewagons), then say...5 units of boyz + 1 HQ + 3 units of Lootas and still have 5 battlewagons + 3 Lootas from using 2 detachments, right?

Shush, or GW will put 'Eavy Flash Gitz in another overpriced 'supplement' book :(
Less cynically, I suspect the 'no armour' option was probably deliberate to stop them being over-powered. But like many other ork players, I'd have preferred them to instead lose their Nob stats and become Boyz in 'eavy armour.

This could be because of the random AP of the Snazzgun and its shorter range. Deffguns shoot up to 48", have higher strength and a fixed AP, so you know what to expect form them. The Snazzgun on the other hand can destroy a Terminator squad, but can also fail to get throug the armour of a Guardsmen. Also you can't deal with vehicles.

Formations are the same as adding another CAD - of course that alleviates the issue if you got points afterwords, not the point.

Neither Lootas nor Gitz have good armor. The Lootas seem to have a better gun too, but does the stat line and the seemingly negatively priced gun make Gitz better.

Flash gitz are still quite meh and rarely see the table. If they were Elite than maybe...nope - still too many points for 6+ nobz that can't get 'eavy armor with s5 gunz when you can take insane tankbustas!
Badrukk formation makes them somewhat playable in some cases for high-pt games just cause they don't eat up HS slots and get master-crafted (which is a pain to track).
Flash gitz need to be elite and get something extra to see the table in a regular game. I'd rather they all had 'eavy armor instead of boss poles. That'd make flash gitz worth taking.

The think that annoys me most about Badrukks formation is it being 21 models... which makes is not fit into battlewagons
A unit of 20 flash gits in a battlewagon would be totally awesome.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |
