Subject: I don't think the forgeworld Horus Heresy models really represent chaos marines.

Post Istvaan, they change a lot. They don't have clean armor identical to their loyalist counterparts. A lot of people in the books remark that they look evil, they have chaos banners and some actually start melting into their armor as mutation runs rampant. Chaos iconography also becomes standard. This is especially noticeable in Angel Exterminates with the Emperors Children are described as they are in the 41st millennium. For some like Iron Warriors it works, but others it really doesn't.
I mean you'd probably be a lot closer with the current range of chaos models, especially the likes of the raptors rather than the HH range.
Plus, minor gripe. All the Horus Heresy books, artwork and a lot of the painted armies keep portraying the Sons of Horus in Luna Wolf colors; even though its repeatedly mentioned that they changed to green armor. But no its just endless slate grey.

That'll be because during the outbreak/beginning stages of the Heresy, it was more of a civil war between Legions, Battle-Brother against fellow Battle-Brother. The "Chaos-ification" develops over time, corrupting and erroding within first, and then outward signs manifest later on... like, once they've been banished to the Warp later on.
The Forgeworld Heresy era models, therefore, represent exactly what they're meant to - Heresy era Legionnaires on the brink of their fall. Not the degraded, deranged, mutated Warp-spawn that stands for what's left in M41.

But we know that the HH model series will eventually cover all of the series including Calth where these mutations first start getting mentioned. Its not just Istvaan armies. PLus, if you read Fulgrim, the book, the Emp Chil on Istvaan are even then unrecognisable.

But we also know that Forgeworld are not releasing their range in direct chronology with the Black Library novels, or even that they will match up perfectly, being different companies with their own fluff. So...

"unrecognisable" from the marines point of view can be as simple as a small mutation.

Seeing as the books are supposed to cover the marines during the tail end of the great crusade, no they are not going to be very chaosified.
Wait another three books, and maybe we'll get to see the first true chaos marines.

The Gal Vorbak are a unique unit that only Word Beaers can use.

Its the start of the chaos mutations, you don't develop them overnight.
WB were just the of the first to have enough of an impact so they had visibly different units composed of mutated marines. expect more to follow for other legions, maybe even "generic traitor" corrupted marines.

These current models are supposed to represent Late Crusade/Early Heresy Marines, long before most of them truly fell to Chaos.
I think you've been mistaking the changes in a small number of the truly corrupted with the vast majority.
Even the other traitors are often surprised and horrified by what they see, so it's quite obvious that most of them are still fairly normal.

Well they are possessed, Marines that have taken Daemons into themselves.. Which is only Word Bearer only (or Alpha Legion who can 'steal' units)

...yeah, and the Word Bearers are leading the way in the whole "falling to Chaos" thing. Chaos Space Marines as we know and love them do not truly exist until after the Heresy concludes and their self-imposed banishment within the Eye of Terror - the very event the Gal Vorbak are a foreshadowing of.
You seem to be under the illusion that the HH series is over and done with and/or that Forgeworld are finished with their own journey through that period and that all their models are already released. If this were true then your topic would make sense. As it stands... not so much.
