Hey guys,

So yesterday I tested out my new list in 2 games, one against Eldar and the other against Dark Eldar.

It performed very well...beat the Eldar 8 - 5 and Dark Eldar 16 - 7

However, one unit was left untouched (Wraithknight) and it made me wonder how I could change my list a little in order to deal with it especially if I happen to play against an army with 2 of them.

Luckily it only vaporized a couple of my combat squads and killed another in close combat while the rest of my army destroyed all his other units.

Here's my list:

1850 points

HQ

Vulkan

Captain (Bike, Shield Eternal, Thunderhammer, Artificer Armor)

Elites

5x Sternguard (2x Heavy Flamer, Drop Pod) *Vulkan goes here*

5x Legion Of The Damned (1x Multimelta, 1x Meltagun, 1x Combi-Melta)

5x Legion Of The Damned (1x Multimelta, 1x Meltagun, 1x Combi-Melta)

Troops

10x Tactical Squad (1x Meltagun, 1x Combi Melta, Drop Pod)

10x Tactical Squad (1x Meltagun, 1x Combi Melta, Drop Pod)

10x Tactical Squad (1x Flamer, 1x Combi Flamer, Drop Pod)

5x Tactical Squad (1x Flamer, 1x Combi Flamer, Drop Pod)

5x Bikes (2x Meltagun, 1x Combi Melta) *Captain goes here*

Fast Attack

Stormtalon (Skyhammer)

Outside of the poison shots from the sternguard there really isn't much that would reliably wound T8 outside of the meltaguns or the captain in close combat.

Any tips or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks guys!

Put Combi-Gravs on the Legion of the Damned and possibly put Grav-guns on the bikes instead of meltas. Since they both have SnP and Relentless respectfully you'll always get the 3 shots at full range which will be wounding on 3+ against the Wraithknight. Plus they still function decently well for killing vehicles too.

The last tournament I was at was won by a 3 wraithknight list... The runner up had a single wraithknight. But it was generally invisible.

Yeah Grav will help. I think the main thing though is that you have too many points in Troops in this list. Tacticals are really not that great in large numbers - bolters don't win games, special weapons do. I would drop 1 of the 10 man Tacticals (the flamer one, use the 5 man as a suicide infantry clearing flamer unit if need) and use the points to get something that has a much higher damage output. Even a couple of Predators would probably be more useful to this list.

I would also take a command squad on bike since you are unlocking it anyway with the captain/vulkan

Carefull though, because I know from experience that wave serpents eat up bikes.

I do drugs.
Mostly Plastic Crack, but I do dabble in Cardboard Cocaine.

Solid suggestions all around!

I would rather keep the bikes troops instead of the command squad just for the extra OS unit.

I could remove the 10 man flamer squad and fumble around for some points to bring some dev centurions with grav cannons or something else with a lot of firepower. But that would mean 4 drop pods so would i be better off downgrading to 3 of them and replacing the 4th with something else too?

I want to make sure I have a good amount of OS units too lol

With Ignore cover melta coming down as well as regular melta, I dont think he will be firing his serpent shield.

OS units aren't really important unless its a hard to kill unit (which marines are not)

As an Eldar player; what I personally hate is being made to take a lot of saves. Don't worry about punching right through, if you can throw a bunch of shots at me that are likely to pen/wound, then I'm worried.

Grav bikes are the bane of my Wraithknight.

That Shield Eternal Captain/CM can also do work on him in CC.

Centurions also work, if you want to include some of them. Ally in SW and put them in a pod for style points.

8,000 pts and counting
1,000 points, now painting.

I don't get it. You've won the game. Why fix what's ain't broken? If you focus on gravgunz killing wraithknights you're gona miss more important threats. The wraithknight is Supposed to be a bullet magnet. Don't fall into this trap. Or you'll just get lured into another template grav cents + biker spam sm list. Besides, why don't you like tarpitting with tacticals? It's point-effecient and juite heroic. The narrative of eventually killing a wraithknight with a krak nade is gona be awesome.

I am very happy with how my army performed I was just trying to think about how I could adapt my list to deal with them while still keeping the same vibe to the list.

As much as I liked how much of a success my battles went I hated looking at the wraithknight and not having a reasonable way to eliminate him.

I thought that OS were important in 7th though? If not I will gladly take some out for extra beefy firepower

OS only matters if you are alive to score as well as your opponents OS is dead.

I am finding that I am better off killing his units than having a bunch of OS myself.

How to kill wraithnights in 4 simple steps.

1. Place can of coke a few tables away.
2. Let your opponent place models first.
3. Ask him to grab you the coke from step 1.
4. As soon as he is too far away, let the smashing begin.
