This is my first try at a tournament army in quite a while. After attending the NOVA open last weekend, I decided I may try my hand at some tournament play.

This is what I came up with while tooling around today. It uses the Wolves Unleashed detachment rules. The big reason is for the 6 HQ slots.

The plan is to run all 6 psykers with Divination, fishing for the primaris and the power that ignores cover. I noticed that since you only have to roll for psychic powers 'before the game starts', you could roll for powers and then decide who goes in what squad. That said, the first psyker to get the powers I need will go with the Long Fangs, while anyone else who gets them after that is pretty much just gravy. All of the powers in the discipline are quite useful, so you can't really lose that much.

Also, the detachment allows me to automatically bring in one reserved unit per turn after turn one, meaning my third drop pod is landing on turn two. I can also choose to outflank with the Grey Hunters if I roll correctly to get it before the game.

so here is the list:

HQ: Njal Stormcaller w/ Terminator Armor
HQ: Rune Priest (ML2) w/ Psychic Hood
HQ: Rune Priest (ML2) w/ Psychic Hood
HQ: Rune Priest (ML2) w/ Psychic Hood
HQ: Rune Priest (ML2) w/ Psychic Hood
HQ: Rune Priest (ML2) w/ Psychic Hood

Troops: 10 Grey Hunters w/ 1 plasma pistol, 2 plasma guns, 1 WGPL w/ combi-plasma, melta bombs
Troops: 10 Grey Hunters w/ 1 plasma pistol, 2 plasma guns, 1 WGPL w/ combi-plasma, melta bombs

Elite: 5 Wolf Guard w/ 5x Combi-Melta
Transport: Drop Pod
Elite: 5 Wolf Guard w/ 5x Combi-Melta
Transport: Drop Pod w/ locator beacon
Elite: 5 Wolf Guard w/ 5x Combi-Plasma
Transport: Drop Pod w/ locator beacon

Heavy: 6 Long Fangs w/ 4 missile launchers (w/ flakk missiles), 1 plasma cannon, 1 WGPL w/ TDA, SS

Total:
1850

With any sort of luck at all, I will have 4 missile launchers and 1 plasma cannon that ignore cover. The plasma cannon can fire at different targets, and the WGPL can tank for the unit, hopefully increasing their survivability. That's one thing I definitely noticed from NOVA. Cover is out of control. Pretty much everything has at least a 4+ cover save at all times, and that's ridiculous. Hopefully with some half way decent rolls, I can take care of that. It also means that units like Command Barges or Wave Serpents will be hurting due to not being able to jink away from fire.

Thoughts?
