Hello people.
Just wanted to have a go at the forgefiend ectoplasma here.
I put three of them on mine, and it is terrific in 650 pts games.
I find that it is a monster as close range artillery, it kills infantry and vehichles alike.
It will not die..
It has fleet and fear and two attacks at s6 in melee..
I had to make another list without it, because it won me the game everytime..
I seem to never get any wounds from overheating either, and it even has an invulnerable save since its deamon..
What do you guys think?
Anyone else run it with 3 ectoplasma?

It would lose a hull point.. 1/2 *1/2 * 1/3 so 1 in every 12 shots.. thats not too bad, 1/3 a turn of regen.
650 pts, yeah not bad.

So if i have other units running up for some good old melee, my enemy would shoot them right?
While my forgefiend could run behind and shoot as well, then join the melee for protection.

I would most likely try to get in CC with them ASAP, I have a fondness of running Ironclad Dreadnoughts which would make short work of them in CC (maybe DP them in to make firing low BS plasma a risk in your own DZ), in addition to my Stormraven's high strength weapons when it shows up.

The lack of 13 front armor really hurts the forge fiend.
An executioner rus has double the number of shots (with plasma sponsons) and double the surviveability at not much more cost.
A soul grinder has double the melee power and considerably more survive ability at roughly the same cost (depending on armament)
AV13 makes you immune to krak grenades which is so handy.

Tau Crisis teams with target lock and dual melta's could ruin your day as well if you've left them close together.

Really not worth it.
As wtnind said, a Leman Russ executioner as an ally is killier, way more durable and costs only slightly more.
I do prefer the Maulerfiend, which works well in an assault-oriented list: way cheaper (135pts with the tendrils), very fast (12", ignores all terraines) and capable of stopping a lot of dangerous units: Flesh Hounds, Spawns and anything with STR5 or less.
Additionally, thanks to the tendrils, he's also harder to kill in close combat. Of course it's role is that of drawing fire away from your Spawns/Land Raider/whatever. Of course something is going to die turn 1, but the point is overwhelming the opponent with fast, killy and durable (compared to their cost) threats. And if he doesn't blow him up he can be a real pain in your opponent arse...

Forgefiends are fun, but honestly I run Hades every single time. While you're missing out on AP2, having a zillion more shots helps tremendously, and pinning is even more awesome now that it has become so rare.
And that way the Forgefiend can double as AA in a pinch, especially if you're running a Balestar Crimson Slaughter Sorc. I've taken down StormRavens in 1 volley between Prescience and Daemonforge.
