Hi all in Dakka,

Im in the process of starting a Catachna jungle fighter army. I want it to look like it's made for jungle fighting but still be realtively useable. Im not looking to use it in tournemenys but I want to win the odd game with it.

What I'd like help with is choseing the Armour to take. Id like to model the tanks etc with short stubby looking weapons, demoilser/punisher cannons etc, as they look like they would be better used in confined spaces and so on, but are thay any good? Is there a must have bit IG kit that you shouldnt go with out etc?

Also which of the named characters are best to use and how to kit out vetran squads etc.

Thanks..

Well based on catachan characters I think straken is your only choice.

As for armor, a punisher with heavy bolters all around will do some damage to infantry, the demolisher is pretty strong and requires se close fighting but can really hurt enemy units. The eradicator also would actually fit catachan fluff because the gun ignores cover and catachans prefer to fight in the forests. Heavy bolters all around on an eradicator is pretty good at killing infantry as well.

If you feel like a Lord of War, then there's a Catachan Hellhammer, if I recall correctly.

Catachan Characters:
~ "Iron Hand" Straken
~ Nork Deddog (He spent time attached to the catachan 2nd)
~ Sgt Harker

~ Sly Marbo - he's no longer in the codex but an eversor assassin makes a perfectly acceptable "counts as"

One thing you shouldn't field is commissars - the Catachans don't get along with them and they tend to suffer fatal accidents before they even get to the battlefield.

The classic catachan force:

Company Command Squad
Veterans - Demolitions and/or Forward Scouts doctrine, not grenadiers.

Scout sentinal walkers

Heavy on the flamer weapons.

Yup! Traitor's Bane, it's in the pandorax book. IIRC it gets steath and a bunch of other goodies.

Cheers guys some nice bits in there. I was going to build a commisar but think i'll pass on that now. I've also just started a Hell hammer, I'll google the name and see what comes up.

Actually there is nothing wrong about fielding commissars witch catachans. Some commissars that don't get along with guardsmen get fragged, but majority of them don't. In 4th edition there was a separate catachan codex and it allowed you to take commissars only with a 1/6 chance, that they have an accident (2+ they live)
