I got the Officio Assassinorum and must say I am really impressed with the new Vindicare Assassin.

Cons:

- got 5 points costlier
- lost fleet
- lost synskin
- lost the AP1 on his weapons
- lost his armor save (he already had a 4++ in the old codex - his armor save was superfluous)
- lost the ability to permanently delete an opponent's inv. save

Pros:

- gained a wound
- negatively modifies Lookout Sir rolls quite well
- got his exitus rifle range DOUBLED
- IGNORES COVER
- dont have the mathhammer on this, but I think it's easier for him to crack tanks open now due to the change of the turbo penetrator mechanism from 4D6 to maximum Strength (crysis reference)

Everything else remained the same, but IMO he got buffed and not nerfed - the things he lost aren't really detrimental to the way he was meant to be played anyways, and for this playstyle (putting him in ruins, as far away from the enemy as possible) the buffs he got (predominantly the much greater range and ignores cover mechanic) have made him a lot better in doing what he is supposed to do - eliminate characters, apothecaries, banner carriers and special weapon guys. And Lookout Sir is also a lot harder for the opponent to pull off as well.

So will you continue to field him or will you drop him from your armylists?

Same problems as he used to have. He's dead in one shot, better hope the zero to one model he kills is worth it.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

I think the range boost combined with ignoring cover would have been good enough for me, the extra wound is just icing on the cake. Sure it would have been nice to keep the other rounds as well, but let's face it: we all used the Vindicare to pop vehicles or remove invul saves. He's well worth his points, and I still plan to field him.

The new vindicare is amazing. 36 inch range was a death sentence for a toughness 3 model, he had to hope to kill a high value target turn 1 before he inevitably was focused and died. Ignore cover is one of the best rules in the game. He is now very usable.

My vindicare will probably steal a 35 point rhino fire point and sit in the back killing stuff from across the board with impunity. It is practically an ignore cover bs8 rail gun.

T4, mate

The problem with putting him in a Rhino is that he will then be at ground level and have a harder time getting clear LoS than putting him on the highest point on the battlefield.

My mistake. His old two wounds even at toughness 4 was still a huge liability. 72" range is very powerful as he can outrange most s8 weapons like missile launchers and lascannons.

He works especially well for GK now, as GK lack high strength low AP tank busting weapons, AND can take rhinos as Fast Attack choices instead of just dedicatd transports. Give the vindi an armored ride and just camp him in cover, pop S10 all over the place from across the board.

Actually, losing ones armor save is a pro if it was equal to the invuln save. You'd never use it, but it made you more vulnerable to grav weapons.
