Optimized CCBs are 250 ish points.
D.Lord+Wraiths are even more.
They're both incredibly deadly, so have a tendency to get focused down ASAP.
What we need is a distraction. Something big and dangerous to pop into your opponent's back field that would require immediate attention.
...
For 200 points, would a Monolith fill that role?

Is there potential for viability, or would all opponents already be aware of how less of a threat it would be compared to the rest of the Necron heavy hitters?

A monolith itself poses no threat due to its poor weaponry. It's the units that can potentially teleport through it.

Also you can break LOS with it to quite large models.

My armies:
Eldar
Necron
Chaos Space Marines
Grey Knights
Imperial Knights
Death Guard

I like that idea. I've been meaning to run mine for sh*ts and giggles. What would make them OP would be if the door was an assault ramp...now that would make things very interesting...maybe in the next release...right after they nerf tesla

Yes, but how many people are really aware how mediocre the Monolith is now?
Too many? Enough? A minority?
I'm wondering what the psychological reaction to an AV14 behemoth dropping into someone's deployment zone would be for the average player.
Much like the distraction Carnifex, will it throw them off/make them divert their attention, potentially changing the way a game goes?

Tbf, I don't have a Monolith but I have proxied one and I liked it for a few reasons -

It suited my Teleportation theme, actually managed to kill some things and most importantly to you, was quite distracting.

Deep-striking it in seems to be the way to go. When I pushed it slowly up the board my opponents didn't seem to be fazed whatsoever and dealt with it calmly. When it was dropped in their faces however, there was an instinctual panic moment and it installed a sense of "OMG I MUST DEAL WITH THIS NOW!"

You're right though - it is low threat and it doesn't take that much damage before going down BUT when you deep-strike it, it does become a very good Distraction unit for a turn or two. If it lasts more than 1 turn that's even better, because you can pull units to it and increase your foothold.

To be honest, a deep striking Monolith that is left alone is probably far more dangerous than people give it credit for. It doesn't have game winning firepower, but if left alone, it can take out small squads of heavy weapons that are normally sitting around in the back of the deployment zone, and can certainly take out artillery such as thunderfire cannons and those open topped IG tanks. Add in the bonus of transporting large units of Warriors from across the board, and a Monolith goes from a minor distraction to a real problem.

You shouldn't play to beat the average Ayer, you should play to beat the best players, by doing this you'll beat the average players anyway.

P.S.A. I won't read your posts if you break it into a million separate quotes and make an eyesore of it.

A monolith can be used (somewhat cowardly) as a moving wall to hide your advancing units behind. A monolith is very large and will readily block LOS, so even if they don't want to shoot at it, they may have to. It is also psychological warface, as was stated. It's just a huge model, and even though it's actually a support unit, the enemy is going to have to waste a good deal of firepower to bring it down. If they don't, just start using the gateway to drop your models in, or even more hilariously, sucking up theirs. I don't think monoliths are bad at all. They just aren't super killy on paper and people disregard them because of that. The real problem for them is finding somewhere TO deepstrike them.
