This happened in game & I want to see if we played it correctly.

My Nomad Szalamandra TAG fired his Heavy Flamethrower at a revealed Shasvastii Sphinx TAG & I positioned the template to also cover an enemy camouflage marker behind him.
My "intended target" was the Sphinx, not the camo marker, but I obviously want to kill 2 birds with one stone.

Is it legal to make that shot?
OR would I need to either make an intuitive attack? or reposition the template to not hit the camouflaged unit?

The rules state you cannot place a template to cover a friendly model.
However they're not entirely clear about hitting camouflaged troops if they happen to be near other revealed legit targets.

Is that a natural 21?

Yup, it was legal. You had a valid target in the revealed sphinx, you can then place the template how you like as long as it has a valid target. If you can also hit a camo marker then thats bad news for the camo marker.

Yup. If the camo marker is in front or behind makes no difference. You hit a valid target and the camo is in the splash zone so takes a hit.

A similar issue will effect hidden TO models that get splashed by blasts.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

What they said, and since you're shooting a HF, also remember the effects of Fire ammo. If the marker fails the ARM roll and gets a wound, it's camo will be burnt, reduced to Mimetism. So the marker would be revealed. Burnt camo can be fixed by engineers.

Not quite accurate.

\Regardless of whether or not the ARM roll is successful, the act of getting hit by fire reduces Camo and TO Camo to Mimetism.

From the Wiki:

Fire Special Ammunition damages CH: Camouflage and CH: Camouflage TO systems, reducing those Special Skills to CH: Mimetism until they are repaired. Fire Ammunition disables all levels of the Impersonation Special Skill, Optical Disruption Devices and Holoprojectors until repaired.

FAQ

- Does Fire special ammunition need to damage its target in order to have an effect on the systems it disables?

No, it just needs to hit the model having any of the above mentioned skills or equipment.
