I, like some, prefer the oldcron fluff where the C'tan were in charge of things and Necrons weren't another bunch of cackling bad guys scheming away and bro-fisting blood angels when it's convenient.

But it is what it is.

My question is, do you think it's possible for some of the C'tan to regain control of a dynasty or two?

Hear me out because I think it's quite probable.

After all: "The C'tan are said to be the oldest intelligent beings in existence in the Milky Way Galaxy. It is said that they were created at the very beginning of the universe, spawned from swirling gases and enormous amounts of energy..."

2 main causes I can see. We know some tomb worlds are irrevocably damaged unto destruction in the millions of years since the crons were awake. What if some destructive event caused the wards on a dynasty's captured C'tan to erode and break, freeing a bunch of shards and or transcendent that then merge into something they cannot control?

We also know the flayer virus is overtaking some dynasties. Say it overwhelms a ruling council and eventually their captured C'tan get free as in scenario #1 above.

I think it's at least within the realm of possibility.

Between

Since I remember this being mentioned in passing as having happened in one or two smaller Dynasties in the Necron book, yes, I'd say it's entirely possible.

How's this for a scenario: The Flayer Virus gets into a several Tesseract Vaults and infects the C'tan held therein. When the Vaults are opened, the Flayer Virus has overtaken them completely, from across the galaxy. The necrodermis can't contain the flayerised C'tan shards, its not strong enough, and so they shatter, freeing the shards... and then the Shards are guided by their mutual infection and reform the obliterated C'tan that spawned said virus.

I really like that idea. The C'tan that cursed them with the flayer virus is reformed as such. Awesome.
