So today in a escalation league in my flgs I rolled for 2 HS.

I picked up two Forgefiend Kits due to peer pressure but now im not sure whether to make them Forgefiends or Maulers?

In my list I have: Huron, Mok termies, Mon termies, Mon obliterators, and a Helldrake with a baleflamer.

What is your opinion on the best configuration for the fiends?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you made a bad move doing that. Since you have so many termies I'd assume you have plenty of assault already, but be aware that a maulerfiend can get across the board REALLY fast, and with magma cutters can rip through armor like nobodies business. A forgefiend, however, brings a LOT of devestating firepower to the table. This can help with things like wave serpents and flyers. For 175 points you get two sets of 4 strength 8 ap 4 shots that have pinning, so even if it blows up all the light armor it can then turn on troops and devestate them as well. And that's just the basic loadout.

Oh, and either way, they are a PAIN IN THE NECK to kill with IWND, fleet, and daemon.

With your army either would work. Maulerfiends are good anti-armor units, but not great at anything else. Forgefiends earn their points with a turn 1 Daemonforge. Both are squishy @ 3 HP, and armor 12 is easily dealt with by most armies. 5+ invuln is ok.. IWND will rarely ever give you a HP back. If your FF makes it past turn 2 youre doing good.

Whatever you choose will complement your current force. If you only have two HS slots though, Im inclined to say use the Oblits for one, and a FF for the other.

In that list, yeah, that big ole model is gonna stand out and draw fire. I didn't think about that. The hades autocannon can outrange most AV that infantry are going to be dragging around with them, unless you face devastators with LCs or something, though. And I was definitely not saying rely on IWND, lol. The invulnerable save is more useful. TBH, with his list, I'd really say a squad of Havocs with autocannons would be better, just totally making AV weapons useless. Just remember that your forgefiends are walkers and can move and shoot without caring. Use it hide behind terrain as much as you can to block LoS. Maulerfiends are going to be using that fleet to run and close in as fast as possible. I'm just saying that you have no antiair in that list, so a forgefiend would be the way to go. I say make one of both. Maulerfiends also have their place.

@Munga SO would you suggest running 1 one of each with the barebones loadout? And to your other post: Thanks for the advice on the forge fiend

I was thinking of infiltrating the maulerfiend using huron special ability or keeping it in reserves and outflanking it

@sand.zzz Thanks for your insight and throughout the game.

I have rolled for 1 hq 2 elites and 3 heavy support but I cannot change my previous choices I can only change the newest 2 or give the previous different upgrades.

Maulerfiends have worked very well for me. Any non-walker vehicle they will reliable paste with 4 S10 ap2 attacks on the charge, and usually a single S8 ap1 armorbane at I1. On average you'll paste a LR, since those magmacutters are auto-hits! One piece of advice though; if any of your opponents use dreadnoughts with CCW, stay away. They will almost invariably paste you before you get to swing. If they have riflemen.. go to town.

Forgefiends, as everone has said, are best with the HA. 8 S8 shots will down pretty much any light vehicle, and can even serve as a decent character killer due to volume of fire. You -might- want to magnetize the head to occasionally take that tertiary ecto-cannon. It can be nice to throw around the S8 ap2 blast at things, maybe popping a serpent outright, or forcing TEQ to roll their inv instead. Also, remember that the infiltrate from Huron's WLT is for infantry only, so no infiltrating maulerfiends

Both types can work, but I would recommend magnetizing them so that you can switch back and forth.

Hey I missed that thanks for correcting me starhunter.

@graf haven't had good success with magnetizing but I think I may give it another go.

IS it possible to magnetize or pin the fiends so that you can change from maulier to forge?

In my previous experience forge fiends are amazing. They give you a lot of fire power, and people tend to over look them for smaller threats. I actually would run them in a formation that gave me 2 ff and 2 sorc with prescience. Twin linking those ff = win. Plus if you get invisibility its even better! I always loaded mine out at 200 points for the ecto-cannon head. Just more pain AND a small chunk of anti-swarm. I always ran two. Just too awesome to pass up.

The fiends are super easy to magnetize. The only constant things about them are the bodies and back legs. Everything else is directly interchangeable.
