Concussive vs mastercrafted... That's the only difference.

I go for mastercrafted on most.

Reason: for Concussive to kick in, you need to cause an unsaved wound. The dreadknight can upgrade his powerfists to hammer or sword to get force (you'll lose an attack if you do, due to specialist weapon). Force means an unsaved wound will outright kill most things.

So concussive can only affect things that can't be killed outright (I'm thinking eternal warriors) or walkers/super heavy walkers. Maybe good if you are making one specifically to put a dent into knights... ? But in most other cases, I'd prefer master-crafted of the greatsword.

Why would you lose an attack for upgrading your power fists?

You replace only one of your powerfists when upgrading to a daemonhammer or greatsword. Both of the upgrades are specialist weapons, and so is the power fist you didn't trade. None of these weapons are two-handed.

The Dreadknight should retain the bonus attack by the same logic that a Space Marine Captain gets an extra attack when pairing a lightning claw to his power fist.

I also prefer the Greatsword, the master crafted + force makes sure you will put something down instead of just using concussive.

Great sword if anything. Concussive is an almost useless rule as your str10 or force will kill outright most of the time. And lots of things that won't will not care about going last.

I prefer the Greatsword. It helps maximize the number of hits you'll get.

Oh, good catch... My bad. This is a recent change now that nemesis doomfist is no longer a thing... A dreadnought close combat weapon wasn't a specialist weapon... the powerfist is!

Oh, I see. Yes, that would be an easy mistake to make if you're still more familiar with the old codex. Makes sense.

Really the question is is mastercrfted worth 5 pts? The hammer is 5 pts cheaper too. IMO the greatsword is better game wise (Dreadknight has too few attacks to miss one) and looks vastly better.

thanks for the replies guys, gives me a hand. I suspected the sword was the better choice (looks better too so was my inclination anyway but wanted to ensure I wasn't gimping myself for some strange reason)
