I'm painting the Russian / Steampunk Gnomes from Red November up to tabletop. I'd like a brown metallic for the canister on their back. So far, I'm using brown metallic craft paint thinned with Liquitex brown ink. I'd like a hobby paint instead. At the moment, I use Reaper paints, but am open to other metallics. Reaper's Ancient Bronze was too light (it's a shade for their Ancient Gold). Thanks!

I'm using this color scheme, but want to improve it:

I use the Tamiya Alcohol based Metalics and they are fantastic.

Others swear by the Vallejo Alcohol based metalics. Either way they are some of the best around and don't have that "glitter" suspended in fluid look.

If you don't want to mess with the alcohol based stuff Vallejo Model Air Metalics are really good as well.

Good luck and post some pics of your work.

Sigh, GW and their amazing shifting paint range. Do they not make a replacement for Tin Bitz? I’ll need to conserve the pot I have.

Depending on how dark of a brown you want, you can mix Vallejo Model Air Black Metallic with your choice of brown or you could buy Vallejo Metal Medium and mix it with your choice of brown. Using just the Metal Medium will keep your paint lighter in color.

Thanks for your help!

The Vallejo Air Metallics are in my shopping cart until another item gets in stock. Some metallic brown craft paint thinned with brown ink worked okay, but I'm not always going to be lucky enough to paint old Soviet containers that don't mind big metallic flakes!

Anyway, the pic will be up in a few days. I'm writing a tutorial on BGG if you're curious: http://boardgamegeek.com/article/16820403

I like Vallejo Game Color Tinny Tin and if I want a darker tone or paint the more shadowy areas I put up to 50% of black into the mix.

Should work fine with most other metallics as well.
Maybe just try adding a bit of black to your Repaer Anctient Bronze?

Never fear! Tin Bitz has simply been renamed. Grab a pot of "warp-lock bronze", one of my FAVORITE colors and go to town. While I have no experience with what others have mentioned, I'm sure their suggestions are solid as well.

Happy bronzing.

Tinny Tin is a really nice colour, but I don't think it's quite as dark as Tin Bits was. Tin Bits was great for basecoating below gold for the nice, rich tone it gave, and Tinny Tin accomplishes that just as well. But because you want the actual colour, I would recommend getting some Vallejo Metallic Medium or Liquitex Iridescent Medium (same stuff, but the Liquitex is much much cheaper) and mix it with the exact brown tone you want.

Warp-Lock Bronze is also a good replacement for Tin Bits, but it is not the same paint with a different name. It is manufactured by a different company and has a slightly different tone.

If you need a replacement for Tin Bitz, why not go with the 'original' paint from Coat d'Arms?

GW Warplock Bronze is a dark, rich bronze, with good coverage and dries fairly thin (for a metallic). As a couple of other people have said, using metallic medium from Vallejo is another option for mixing your own.

As several people have noted, Warlock Bronze is the official replacement, but generally speaking, bronze paints are metallicized shades of brown. You can use the Vallejo metallic medium mixed with your shade of brown to get a specific hue.

One great feature of warlock bronze is that like leadbelcher, it goes on quite thin -- much thinner than comparable VMC and Army Painter colors (though still significantly thicker than a thinned nonmetallic paint), yet still has exceptional, single coat coverage.
