Here's the list I though I'd settled on:

Librarian 65
Command squad, rhino, 2 storm shields, 2 meltas, 2 meltabombs, rhino 185
Tactical squad, melta, combi melta, rhino 125
Tactical squad, plasma gun, combi plas, meltabomb, rhino 135
Tactical squad, plasma gun, combi plas, meltabomb, rhino 135
Stormtalon, syhammer & assault cannon 125
Predator, las sponsons 115
Predator, las sponsons 115

I'm 100% set on the Librarian and Command squad. How does the list look?

I'm curious as to whether I should swap out the Predators for 2 rifleman Dreadnoughts (120pts), and drop 2 melta bombs. Or, maybe drop the Stormtalon for a third rifleman, since I'm sure 3 rifleman could easily cover AA?

Personally, I love Predators, but the dreads are able to fire on the move whilst the Preds perform best stationary. Preds slightly more survivable (outside of combat at least) but with the light-vehicle saturation you've got going on the dreads might be ok.

I like the list, nice and mobile, though I'd be tempted to put the melta Tacs in a Pod (probably a bad plan though!).

I’d keep the preds and the talon. While spamming mid strength fire can work, sometimes you need the big guns. And the best AA we have is out own flyers, so stick with that.

Thematically and visually, the full tank army is awesome. While dreads can find a place in a list like this, sometimes you just need to bow to your inner tread-head and slap nothing but rhino chassis on the battlefield. With a little air support allowed.

I have horrible feeling I'm going to get sick of painting Rhino chassis vehicles haha.

I've been iffy about the predators since a single AC is pants and the predator sponsons can rarely ever fire both at the same target aaaaaand are so vulnerable along the sides.

As a matter of personal taste, I just don't like fliers, and wish they weren't a part of the game outside of apocalypse, but ah well.

What about just dropping one of the predators for a dreadnought? I thought running multiples or either two would be better than just one of each though.

If I did go for the 3 dreads, what would be the real disadvantages I'd face? Barring lack of skyfire, the trade off seems pretty much solid to me.

The long range of the preds means you generally can just hang back and shoot, keeping the front AV13 plate between you and your foe. It’s not like a vindi where you need to charge forward, exposing your sides.

At long range, it’s not that hard to get both LCs pointing at the same target. Particularly since you are going to spend your time shooting at big, boxy, wide things. And if you are shooting at light armor, the AC can strip HPs just fine.

Spamming and redundancy is not just taking the same thing 3 times. Both the pred and dread fill the same role, but with slightly different pros and cons. They both take AV weapons to put down. One is better in CC, the other has better front armor. You could probably mix and match with no serious problems.

Going with all dreads puts all your heavy AV fire onto the melta guns you have. Massed S7 fire can work well on light/medium armor, but I’d not rely on it to take down AV13-14 targets. Keeping a few LCs in your list gives you some solid long range firepower. Of course, if you really want to go the dread route, they can also take TLLCs

While I agree that flyers probably should have stayed in apoc, they are here. So we need to deal with them. The stormtalon is a spunky little bird. I field one, often paired with a quadgun, as my only AA. It’s been my MVP in a lot of games. If not for keeping the skies clear, but for delivering a solid chunk of firepower right were I needed it. It’s point cost is quite reasonable for what it does, and the FA slot is not that contested. If it helps your worldview, think of it as an attack helicopter, and not a jet fighter. Makes it a little more palatable to see on the normal sized 40k battlefield.

Alright then!

How about swapping out some meltabombs to upgrade a Rhino to a heavy bolter razorback?

Normally I’m a big advocate of razors for small squads, and you could defiantly swing that way. But there is something to be said for the two meltagunners leaning out the hatch and vaporizing something. The razors lack of firing ports does limit what the guys inside can do.

Alright then!

I'm tinkering with the idea of some Inquisition allies as a side project which I've started another thread for here:
