Hello

I was wondering how you guys felt about LoW/ LoW characters and Imperial Knights in friendly games? Are imperial knights just considered basically 100% always legal at this point? If you and I agreed to a 1500 point game and a plopped a knight on the table would you be taken aback or complain? Same goes for LoW.

Edit: Sorry if this is naive but I have never played with a knight on any side of the table!

Knights are killable just like anything else, more easily so in some cases. Some people will bitch about facing multiple Imperial Knights in one game, but overall you shouldn't really piss anyone off.

Additionally, there was a MASSIVE thread about how people feel about the inclusions of LoW's in general games now; to avoid turning the thread into a fight about that, you might want to just look for it. It's fairly recent.

Edit: Here it is, link for LoW discussion: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/613643.page

That thread is something I'd be careful of putting too much weight on though. as we're not the people you're playing against. my advice is to ask around at your local gaming group for thoughts on the things. nothing major just sort of over a game of 40k say something like "so I'm pondering adding an Imperial Knight what do you think? good idea?"

get a view for what your LOCAL group thinks. Far as I can tell no one in my area has issues with knights at all. so the grand "controversy" doesn't touch me in the slightest. that said I can't think I've ever seen anyone using say.. a baneblade in regular table top

I agree with BrianDavion, you want to talk to your local group. My group goes by if the rules allow it, you can bring it which means that you can bring Lords of War and Imperial Knights. They aren't as scary as people think and usually are appropriate cost wise like Kaldor Draigo still being the price of a Land Raider so do you want to blow 245 points on a single infantry model or bring a vehicle that is already allowed that has armor 14 all around and has lots of devastating weaponry plus a transport capacity? That is why I don't usually mind if someone brings them.

My Imperial Knight Errant costs 370 points and I have been bringing him to almost every game now for my anti-armor problems. This is in a low model count GK list as well so it is a trade off. Spend more points for singularly powerful units or bring lots of expendable units.

Technically the Imperial Knights are legal in normal games of 40k but for casual games just ask your opponent if they don't mind you using a super-heavy unit. As stated the Knights aren't unkillable but there are people who just really don't like facing super-heavies.

This is a dangerous question; at least one thread has been closed because it devolves into arguments of what's legal or not or what makes one "TFG".

My general guideline (take with a grain of salt as I haven't played 40k in a long time) is if you're fielding something that might ruffle feathers (e.g. superheavies, I'd personally include flyers but they are more accepted now), best to make sure your opponent is cool with it for casual games; maybe bring an alternate in case they don't want to play against a superheavy, you can just swap it out for some other unit. Ultimately it boils down to you both wanting to have fun; if you can ONLY have fun by fielding a Knight, regardless of if your opponent has fun, then I'd rethink what you consider fun.
