I have recently got my friends tau list, after being under the impression we were going to play a fun game i have now realised that he has not been under that impression.
I may be wrong but it seems very strong and my list has no chance of winning. I need to improve it so he doesn't just squash me when we play.

I was thinking maybe if i got rid of the team of 6 jetbikes with no cannons and the sun cannon etc on the wraithknight i could get a crimson hunter what do you think?

I am happy to buy new models but don't want to completely change my army, i really like wraithknights.
Any suggestions to improve my army.

If you want to make your army list more competitive, then swap the wraith lord and the suncannon On the wraithknight for another wave serpent, then split your jetbikes up so you have six units of troops. He hasn't taken the one upgrade he really needs to - vector retro thrusters. No hit and run. So charge the bomb with a wraithknight and tie it up for the rest of the game.

You need to try to kill as much of the rest of his army as possible in the first turn. Remember that psychic powers are really good vs tau - broadsides are leadership 8!

The best change of all would be to remove the avatar and replace with another farseer on a Jetbike. Maybe a warlock or two and make a mini seer council?

Ok I will get another farseer and maybe some warlocks, what do I think about the crimson hunter and I will also split the jetbikes. Thanks kholzerino

I'd personally avoid the mini seer council, as it best operates as a larger unit with more bodies to throw around (imo). Instead, pick up a Jetseer, Mantle him, and take Psychic Shriek. Then roll to try and get terrify (the -3 ld one). If all goes well, you'll have a farseer who can get to the broadsides turn 1 (48" movement on a bike with turbo boosting), then nail them with terrify and shriek. Average 3d6 ld is 10.5, on modified ld5, those broadsides will melt like butter.

Tarpit the crisis star with a Knight, and your other two WK will have free reign to take out the rest.

xlEternitylx what are you sayin with the Wraithknights just drop em all in CC with the deathstar (crisis suits etc) for the whole game or will they take it out. What should I do get the crimson hunter or not!

Not all of them, just one will be good enough. So
1 WK -> Deathstar
Other 2 WK -> Kill other things

Take the hunter, make him an exarch, and give him marksman's eye; make the points by dropping 2 sets of the 6 man jetbike squads.

I only have 2 WKs and ok I know what to do but the deathstar could deepsrtrike apparently and then the avatar could get in on that. But each CS has 3 cc attks ? How will a wraithknight hol that off

Yes. Seercouncil probably works best with minimum of two Farseers on bikes and at least four warlocks (common build is 6-8). But you have a lot of jetbikes already. Change one arm on each and they are warlocks.
The warlocks have a cheap leadership lowering power too (to link with psychic shriek), more rolls at it and psychic focus means you'll get conceal anyway...
Other good moves:
Invisibility on a wraithknight wrecks face.

Problem with mantle is that you have to hide him well from the Farsight Bomb. Whole unit has ignore cover. So it's kinda useless vs them...

i think i ill get 3 more JBs and keep the avatar, i played out me getting into cc with him i came out on top but he could take out one wraithknight, also all of the weapons in that group are melta so avatar is safe.

I have a rule question, (ik ik wrong forum), if i send jetbikes to just stop the group long enough for me to catch them with my wraithknights etc, just wondering cause it seems like a good idea what do you think.

Well, I battled Tau several times with my Serpent spam list and it always has been an uphill battle for Tau.
In your list, you have Jetbikes, Avatar, and Wraith constructs which can be dealt with by a Tau army.
Serpents are a bit different due to the Lanchester square law.
