If I line up a long line of troops eg. firewarriors can a enemy monstrous creature eg. a Wraithknight start the movement phase on one side and move in a straight line through them to the opposite side? Can it be done? If so would it be difficult terrain?

In reality its legs alone are atleast 5x the size of a firewarrior so logically it could, yet in the rules it says a model may never move through an enemy model or move within an inch of an enemy model.

Logic or rules?

Rules always over logic. Those fire warriors could slap grenades on the walker (wraithknights are monstrous creatures BTW) and blow their legs off, or fry the systems. Or just shoot up the damned thinks skirt and kill it.

The wraith knight is a Jump MC if I remember, it was given the jump rules, which ignore intervening models and terrain specifically because it has such long legs. So it, just like say, a flying monstrous creature, can walk right over your tau line.

With an abstract rules system it is best to not try to inject modern day real world physics (or logic) into it, it never ends well.

Real World Common Sense/Real World Logic/How it works in the real world has no bearing on the 40k Ruleset.

Remember: The rules were not written to be "Modern day real world" logical.

The rules are an abstract system used to simulate a battle in the year 40,000.

What would happen in the modern day real world has nothing to do with the RAW, or the simulation of a battle fought 38,000 years from now. (and maybe not even on a planet with the same physical makeup as our earth, and probably different physics as well).

As such they need to have some compromises to make the game playable.

Just to clarify, a WraithKnight is a Jump MC so it can move over other units anyway.

This actually became a point of contention once with my triarch stalker. My opponent was wondering if it would be possible to stop the triarch stalker from advancing because his models would have to space apart and its legs are thin enough to slide through the gaps / step around them.

Why do his models have to space apart?

And find permission for the stalker to move within 1" of an enemy unit.

Wasn't it "move to" within on inch, or am I mis-remembering?

Your opponent was right, the Stalker cannot move through his unit.
