Again a newbie question (I have so many!).
Non-scenario games, how much terrain should be applied? Any?
Of what kinds? Does STAW go into detail about terrain types and effects? Are there house rules out there?

Planets & obstacles are covered in the rule book. Minefields are covered by their card text. A few of the missions have rules for things like gravity wells and orbital weapons platforms.

Hi,
For casual games you can play whatever you like, depending on what sort of scenario you're playing. We've run big battles with minimal planets, as well as lot's of terrain with fleets of small ships hunting each other on a busy map.
Just do whatever you think will be fun to play!

When you just starting at with 40pt builds recommend in the book I would say begin with just a planet or 3 obstacles. Once you get to the 100pt level a planet and 4 obstacles. This will help you guys learn maneuvering. It is fun to have things out there that disrupt shots and get in the way of actions.

I seem to remember that the rulebook suggests a planet and two obstacles.
I think I'm going to start pushing for a bit more than that, though. At least when I'm playing some of the more experienced players.

I agree once you have experienced players flying around these massive gun boats I like to see either a planet and 6 obstacles OR two planets and 4 obstacles. Open space and multiple ships with 360 attacks really takes a lot of fun out for me.
