Subject: Green Tide formation and how to run it like da Boss

Hello, Dakka!
When i first read the rules of greentide formation, it apeared to be purely fluffy but than i realized that it has it's strong sides too. Let's look at the obvious weaknesses first.
- It's a helhuge unwieldy expensive unit with the drawbacks of squad rules like dt for everyone and scoring only 1 point.
- If you get charged by something sturdy, you're gona spend at least a few turns locked in combat cause you only get a limited number of attacks cause only the closest can strike.
- Vulnerability to psy-powers and effects like blind. And what if you face slaanesh sorcerror with "Each guy punches himself in the face. 100 s3 hits for ya". Or if you face a couple deathstrikes...
- Vulnerable to character sniping.
Thus said, there are things that make the formation viable.
- FNP for everyone! And eternal WAAAGH! to boot.
- 10 nobz with a huge meatshield.
- Overwatch!
Now let's talk about how you actually run it. The concensus is that you take squads of 9+Nob and need a KFF mek, big bosspole warboss and painboss or Grotsnik for better durability vs being sniped out and ability to save points on a big bosspole.
But how would you run everything else, cause there are lots of possibilities! Remember, you can equip squads differently.
Do you really need shootaboyz in there? Imagine the overwatch! Special weapons are probably a waste of points cause you spend every turn running + charging.
How would you equip your nobz? PK for everyone? Or half with pk, half naked? I've seen people suggesting combi-scorchas for overwatch.
I'm thinking about a Wierdboy for 5+ DTW and possibly some shooting or mellee buffs.

heres my greentide setup:
warboss, pk, squig, supercybork, eavy armor
6x boys with shootas, nob, pk
4x boys with shootas, nob, big choppa
i also attach a lucky stikk warboss with pk, and grotsnik.
i back it up with 2x units of gretchin, 2x units of lootas, 5 lobbas,
and some burna equiped kommandos with pk nob outflanking.
my greentide warboss is a little point heavy with the supercybork uupgrade, but i like having the eternal warrior on him. i need him to live as long as possible.
the overwatches are amazing and probably my favorite part of the games! opponents don't know what to do.
i like my ranged support, its good at popping transports and light vehicles. my lobbas hunt enemy troops, and the kommandos are just harrassment.
thats my 2k list, i drop the kommandos for 1850 games.
I'm considering dropping the kommamdos altogether and getting some deffkopptas. wil have to play it and see, but I'm really enjoying this set up.
oh there's also a barebones mek with the lobbas

I use the Mega KFF for the 4++ for my green tide, helps alot.
I also run a painboy, with a warboss with the lucky stick. So fearless WS 5 boyz! and a warboss you can do a few reroll's.
I play a IG player, so its not as effective as it should be : /

Only issue with the shield is it's unlikely to grab more than a few members of the horde (if you're spreading out) so it's not worth the points to me. Plus it's easy to outmanuever it since it covers such a small frontage.

Yep, most likely, you'll have to spread and kff looses it's effectiveness.

The list I'm considering with it is:
Greentide:
Warboss w/Fearless Banner & PK
10x9 Slugga Boyz & PK Nob
CAD:
Painboss
Warboss w/PK & +1 WS
2x10 Gretchin
3x5 Rokkit Buggies
3x5 Kannons
Not 100% sure I'll need that many PK's but it's my starting point. I feel like if I don't have that many it's to succeptable isolating portions of the horde and being able to bog it down.

Rokkit Buggies and Kannons, eh?
I thought the general consensus was that buggies were gak in 7th because they die so quick.

They actually live longer in 7th since they don't pop on a 5+ but to each their own. I like buggies
And it gives you some range and high strength to help shred vehicles. Which is needed when half your list is one giant 100 man unit.

That was before they got a point drop. Personally, I prefer koptaz for the option of tying up shooty units, while buggies are immune to moral and tank-shocks, so they are better at blocking and denying area. It's pretty much a matter of taste whether you prefer koptaz or buggies.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe. |

i think y'all will agree, but in my set up, would y'all replace the kommandos with 5x rokkit deffkopptas?
