Okay... I know people rag on flash gitz. But it's piratical orks, carrying guns that the Expendables would envy and wearing even more ostentatious hats than Rogue Trader RPG player characters.

Playing around with The Hour Of The Wolf book, I got the following battleforged army (I'm not a fan of unbound lists because you so rarely get allowed to use them):

Badrukk's Pirates Formation Detachment - 845 Points

10 Flash Gitz
~Ammo Runt
~Battlewagon
~Killkannon

10 Flash Gitz
~Ammo Runt
~Battlewagon
~Killkannon

Kaptin Badrukk (Warlord)
~3 Ammo Runtz

Skyboss Wingnutz Airborne Horde Formation Detachment 655 points

Dakkajet
~ Flyboss
~ Extra Super-Shoota

~ Dakkajet

~ Dakkajet

Burna-Bommer
~4 Skorcha Rokkits

Blitzer-Bommer

Main weaknesses - no ability to call a Waaaggh!, which is a shame given the number of Flyers with Waaagghplane, and limited ability to kill heavy tanks. Armour 12 I can blow to matchwood without too much effort, but a land raider or bunker is only vulnerable to repeated blitzer-bommer bombing runs.

Badrukk's boyz will either deploy in the battlewagons and fire over the side, or mob up into a unit of 21 shootists, light up their gitfindas and fire for effect. I figure assume that they've got a snub heavy bolter each and treat any rolls of AP3 or AP2 as a welcome bonus....

Suggested tactics?
(I would say thoughts on the list, but being a formation army there's limited room to customise...any suggestions are welcome though, especially in terms of options for the battlewagons, as they're my most flexible unit!).

I like Flash Gitz, but with so few ground based models they are going to blown to The Warp and Back.

Run them in or with a CAD.

Go all out and run 3 max units in BW. Unless the formation prevents that or is better that way.

Then use Trukk Boyz and Trukk Tankbustas to help with AV.

Cut down to 2 or 3 planes ( not a fan of the Burna).

Then if you want to WAAAGH!!! (All true Orks do) throw in a Warboss with a PK and Free Shoota.

FASTA, DAKKA, WAAAGH, KRUMP, ORKS WIN AGAIN!!!

Give all the Dakkas an extra supa shoota

For the guy who leaves it all on the field (because he doesn't pick up after the game).

Drop your burna-bomma's rockkits to 2. A flyer can fire 4 weapons at full BS, so 2 missiles, and both guns, or 2 missiles, a bomb and the grot gun (main gun isnt so bad going from 5's to 6's, but with a grot gunner, don't want him snapshotting if avoidable). If using that formation, they get em back when ya fly off the board anyway.

While I love both those formations as well, I can't see using both in the same list under 2k points as being too competitive.

Badrukk's pirates are explicitely two full strength units; you can't add more. On the plus side, master-crafted snazzguns have even more dakka.

The Aerial Horde is, again, specifically that size.
The problem with using anything else is figuring out what else fits for the pirate force; I don't especially want to take any non flash git infantry, and I don't think a dread mob formation detachment would fit.

Hmmm...

The reduced skorcha rokkits is a point. Unlike a Blitza-bommer, the big shoota is turret mounted, so that plus the super-shoota is two of your firing slots.

That pretty much was the plan - bring it on, dump 4 skorchas into something, then disengage and reload next turn, but two rokkits and firing the gunz would work as well.

I'll be honest, the burna bomm is nice but I'd be far more bothered about getting a decent attack run - if I get to drop one in the process then great. For the Blitza-bommer, obviously it's all about the boom bomms because they have massive killing power now.

Pulling two skorcha rokkits would allow extra super-shootas on two dakkajets, but not the third (so for simplicity I'd probably leave the flyboss' fighter clean). Taking a third would require pulling a killkannon off a battlewagon, and that's too big a part of my firepower to my mind

i"d just bump the list up to 1850... take a pain boy or two and a nother BW with some boys...

1500 is normal for our local games. The GW store is fairly small and you're usually stuck on 4' x 4' boards, so 1850 is rather unworkable both from game length and models-to-size-of-board.

Thinking about the battlewagons, I could trade off the killkannons for a passel of rokkit launchas - I'm not sure which is the more useful, but I'm leaning towards the rokkits - a killkannon rocks at butchering marine infantry in the open, but so do flash gitz - against a vehicle, 4 rokkits and a kannon will probably do more damange.
