An Igloo Deep North in Canada, eh?

Hi all,
In light of SW release and my liking of the Murderfang / Bjorn models, I have decided to add them to my army as allies. Typically I run something basic like {Bjorn (Helfrost Cannon) + Pod, Murderfang + Pod, 5x Grey Hunters + Pod} so that I can get both dreads into the fight turn one. Problem is, I have no idea how to use the pods. What is the best placement for them? How do I keep them (dreads) alive long enough to get into the assault next turn? Etc. Any advice would be appreciated, thanks.

Edit: Just some more details in case it helps. Usually I run Eldar at 1850 points, using a few WS, and a HarleStar.

Both players should be using the least durable units possible, with the house rule that all players remove an article of clothing every time you lose a unit, and take a drink every time you kill one of your opponent's units.
I have no idea which army will be triumphant, but I can assure you that everyone wins.

As far as I can tell, murderfang's best job is to take a lot of shots before dying, allowing your TWC to get across the table and in your opponent's grill.

I typically run two dreadnaughts in pods as a suicide tactic. Of course I do venerable dreads, one with a MM and one with an assault cannon, both with heavy flamers.

Since I have a 3rd pod of units, the first two dreads come in first turn in the enemy deployment zone and go for first blood. If I can get rear or side armor with the MM I go for that, but otherwise the assault cannon and heavy flamer go for an infantry unit. If either dread survive the first round of shooting then I get very excited as they can charge the following turn. What that also means is that since at least some shooting is aimed at the dreads I get a chance to bring up my backfield units, whether its the land raider or the terminators.

Also, drop pods can hold objectives so make sure to drop near one of possible.

I like the Ironclad since AV13 ignores krak grenades and thus most enemy units counter attack. I'm partial to the double heavy flamer build, but keeping the melta is a bit more versatile for tank and MC hunting. Your SW version will work the same though

the key to drop podding is to find a gap in the enemy deployment where
1) You can fit the pod and disembarking unit (1" distance from them).
2) You are unlikely to scatter off the board.

That's it. Go ahead and jam him in the face, since the drop pod rule lets you REDUCE THE SCATTER DISTANCE (never increase it). For the IronClad, podding 2" from enemy blob and scatter 7" onto them? No mishap, reduce scatter to 1" and you're done. Then exit out the side, flame the bubble wrap while touching the vehicle and you can still melta it. Your SW murderface mcgee dread will want to do something similar, but is more likely to want to block forward movement with himself and his pod vs my IClad flanker tactics. If the SW dread isn't AV13 you may want to be wary of krak grenades, but it'll take more than a ten man squad's worth to kill him. Plus hey, free overwatch.

I come from Eldar and Drop pods are an incredible, cheap DT. I also like rhino's with an extra stormbolter for the annoyance factor even/especially if the troops are out of it but that's another tale.

Icculus, while all pods can score, other readers may want to note that only TROOP DPods have objective Secured.

Multi melta dread in a pod can work very nicely.

For 135 points you not only have a decent shot at blowing up whatever piece of tasty armour your opponent has at the back a decent landing also gives your opponent a line breaking pod to take care of or risk losing a VP

When I run one they don't often last too long but the combination of wounding or blowing up a land raider or a sky ray then taking enemy anti armour fire that should be aimed at my tanks moving up is worth the paltry investment.
