Ive been playing against tau for a while now and no matter what tatic i come up with tau has a counter meassure ,and with everything scoring in 7th things are made even harder

,i can never seem to get into assulst and the amount of fire power he gets in over watch is insane ,he makes sure that there is a bubble of surporting fire ,

he had interceptor on a squad of broadsides with ingnores cover that pretty much wiped out a squad of 8 bikes out flanking

,the tau player has got every tau model and some forge world , ive been collecting space marines ,guard ,nids , and eldar i have about 1500 pts of each of standered things

Im starting to not enjoy playing against tau as it seems like theres only a handfull of things that work against them ,and its more down to list build then play style,

as seeking up dosnt work as he plays defense line with etherail , trying to out shoot dosnt really work ,killing troops dosnt help now ,hiding dosnt work with ignores cover and seeker missiles ,
which is why playing against them isnt much fun i guess as your limted so much on how you can play .

So its bring as much ap2 stuff as i can and as much av14 and focus on killing path finders , railguns and hammer heads ,

Does anybody have any ideas on how eles i can play agaisnt them

Either eldar, guards, nids , space marines or a combo which ever is more viable

His weak spot is ethereal. If you can target him - the castle falls apart without a ld10 bauble. TFK works wonders on them. So as wiverns or basically any barrage artillery. He'll have to spread to minimise losses and that's where you can take him out bit by bit.

And you need to deal with broadsides/crysis teams asap. They're the heavy hitters.

Supporting fire bubbles are my favorite. It ensures that the units are clumped together for large blasts and even better, templates. I was having a rough time with tau with my daemons. Then I started bringing a torrent flamer and wiping out huge chunks of his fire warriors turn 2.

Have you tried AV14? Like a couple Russes or a Landraider?

The posters here have it right.

Blasts and templates eat tau castles for breakfast. Even better if they ignore the cover he will no doubt be hiding in.

And that ethereal needs to be murdered ASAP. Before you reach his lines, ASAP. Outflankers and deep strikers are good for this, because odds are he's hiding in the back as far as possible.

Our local Tau player has been handing out beatings recently too. Whilst I haven't yet won against him, I have come close twice. I play Dark Angels, and found that a RW command squad with an apothecary followed by two dark shrouds helped. Normally the tau player will clump ll force into a compact area, or play a thin line. Three vindicators will draw a lot of heat and should be able to withstand a bit of punishment. I found a good tactic was to present three very real threats. RW Command Squad with Sammael thundering up the left flank, Vindicators in the Centre and 20 tactical's (with plasma load-outs) on the right flank, This should cause the opponent to split his fire up, and give you the half chance you need. Dropping pie plates on his linchpin units is key. I found that dropping a Rad grenade on a Riptide followed by a Hit from a Vindicator caused it Instant death and wiped a big smile of his face. The ethereal is worth a lot of points to you, so it should be a priority, however don't ignore pathfinders. They are a pain and will help his gun line eat through you.

If you are relying on close combat to polish him off, make sure the unit you are charging is out-with 6 inches of any other unit, as this is when supporting fire kicks in. Also, you may need to be prepared to feint. Send a dummy charge in to get annihilated before sending in your real threat.

Keep at it, and you will get the win you desire, and won't that be a victory well worth savouring.
