When you charge with a MC and declare that you will smash, do you get one attack (due to trading in all attacks) or two attacks (for trading in all attacks but gaining another for charging)?

You trade the Attacks characteristic.

So if you have 3 Base attacks, 2 weapons.

You choose not to Smash: 3 + 1 + 1 = 5 Attacks
You choose to Smash: 1 + 1 + 1 = 3 Attacks

I play Tyranids and run a lot of Monstrous Creatures and I would love to say two...but it's one.

Page 171; Smash:

'Additionally, when it makes its close combat attacks, it can choose instead to make a single Smash Attack'.

So regardless of whether you charged, have an additional weapon or gain attacks through Rampage or other Special Rules, if you want to Smash, you trade in all the attacks for one single attack at 2x Strength.

EDIT: BlackTalos really? If that's true that breathes a breath of life into me for playing it wrong all this time!
EDIT: Aww :(

"If a model has a combination of rules or wargear that modify a characteristic, first apply any multipliers, then apply any additions or subtractions, and finally apply any set values."

My Bad, Set values go last, so only ever 1 Attack at your initiative.
