Recently I've been looking at the legions on forge world and was wondering whats with all the armour versions? Like I want to start the Sons of Horus but Im a little confused on what armour and weapon sets to buy as I want them to be fluff accurate with what they would have looked like 10 000 years ago. Also what would the other generic legions look like for armour (excluding switching out the shoulder pads etc.), the only reason I mention this is because if its possible I want find out if you can keep the legion space marines all one genric look and switch between legions to try out their bells and whistles while not having to re buy a ton of models to do so. Any help would be much appreciated.

The short version is that all of the Legions used all of the various marks of armor. Some marks are more identified with certain legions. Death Guard and Iron Hands, for example are usually shown in Mk III. Night Lords are Mk IV. Raven Guard are Mk V and VI. But there isn't one particular mark for any of the legions. Sons of Horus are typically Mk IV.

Like he said, though I thought Sons of Horus always had the best due to Horus making sure his legion was the best equipped?
